We can make this Roughriders vrs. Fighting Hawks

And here's my problem.    I voted Nodaks but was inclined to vote RR (prefer either option to FH).    But now we would cancel each other out.    This is what I fear....RR and Nodaks voters swapping votes and cancelling out while FH voters win the day.  Argh.

I think FH will win the second vote, without a majority. I'm not so sure they will win a head to head with either Nodaks or RR.

If your hypothesis is that the only people who changed their mind to Nodaks were people who also voted on this forum, it can't be proven either way but doesn't seem particularly likely to me.

But, I don't think the swing was nearly as pronounced in the general public (which was less exposed to the social media push for it than the average forum reader), which is why Nodaks polled much better here than in the real vote.

It will be interesting to see the reallocation of the Sundogs and Northstars voters, especially with Nodaks and Roughriders being so close. Will Roughriders pull away or will Nodaks end up taking the lead. Essentially, this votes seem like it is more to determine the favorite between Nodaks and Roughriders. It will then be intersting to see if enough people switch between those two names in the final vote. I know I'm voting Nodaks, but I would much rather see Roughriders than Fighting Hawks.

I still think there is a good chance that Fighting Hawks does not win this.

Well now that there is going to be a 3rd vote (unless Kelly changes the rules again), just vote your heart this round (or Brad Berry's heart, whatever).

Exactly! There is no reason to overthink this, or try to be strategic or anything. Vote for what you want. If your vote choice doesn't make it to the final vote, you can always change it up then.

So... does the second runoff mean there is no longer a conspiracy in place?

I talked to the Pope, the Queen of England, Janet Yellen at the Federal Reserve and the Rothschilds in Paris, and they said they'll do whatever it takes to get Fighting Hawks in place.

I'm not sure they will be able to defeat Berry's Nodaks . I hear he is going door to door "campaigning". Going as far as handing out Authentic Sioux jerseys.#swayingthevote

now that there is an extra vote i agree it is much less likely fighting hawks will be the case (of course, i didnt think so many people would support it the first time). i imagine most people who vote roughriders or nodaks will vote the other in the final vote (unless by some miracle it's those two in the final vote obviously)

Teddy Roosevelt is quoted as follows:

"I have always said I would not have been President had it not been for my experience in North Dakota."

"It was here that the romance of my life began."

"I grow very fond of this place, and it certainly has a desolate, grim beauty of its own, that has a curious fascination for me."

I love North Dakota and it's history. It is wonderful that we have a connection to a man who became
President of the United States. A man who lead the "Roughriders" in their famous charge up San Juan Hill. A man who loved North Dakota and was appreciative of how the state impacted his life.

I will be voting for Roughrider as the UND nickname.

Don't forget:

"I don't always vote for nicknames, but when I do... I vote Nodaks"

This thread is as big a mess as this whole process.

FWIW: I voted RR and now will be voting Nodaks.

I am begging you... Please do not do that.

agree that this is a mess, but don't compound the problem and allow Kelly's manipulation to change what the runoff candidates should be, based on the result based on the original vote

I would hope so, but I agree, I never though fighting hawks was even going to be in the mix. I'm still holding out hope for Nodaks!

President Teddy Roosevelt said without his time in North Dakota he would have never been the man he became.  How many people who have come through UND have echoed the same sentence about this University? I was lucky enough to hear President Clifford talk about what his vision and purpose was for the University of North Dakota.  To have the highest level of excellence in all departments with a strong humanities and liberal arts core. To give the student the best chance at becoming strong individuals with the ability to critically think, be excellent leaders and team members in the fields of endeavor they pursued.  The excellence he built is still the bedrock of this University.  Because of his leadership and dedication to the University and the State of North Dakota the highest honor given to a North Dakotan was bestowed to him - The Rough Rider Award.

Some incredible people like Carl Ben Eielson, Judge Ronald N. Davies, Phil Jackson, Fido Purpur, and John Odegard have been honored with the Rough Rider Award http://governor.nd.gov/theodore-roosevelt-rough-rider-award.

North Dakota is the “Rough Rider State”, not the Bison State, and most certainly not the fighting hawk state.  If you look at quality and character we strive to emulate in our students and student athletes there is no better name to call us than the Rough Riders.  It can unite the whole state.  It is not just some bird, animal or inanimate object. A Rough Rider is an ideal that every person who attends UND should take to heart and achieve. To be a Rough Rider like Teddy Roosevelt, Thomas Clifford, Carl Ben Eielson, Judge Ronald N. Davies, Phil Jackson, Fido Purpur and other great North Dakotans.

As I travel for work across the state our identity as a University is leaving fast.  Very few stores have any UND apparel and gifts anymore. We need a new Identity and we need it now. UND by itself is not enough. We will always (and also) be North Dakota, but we need to carry forward the pride, history, heart and strength of a Rough Rider.

Amen x 1000!!! Well said and well done! What a great first post on this forum!

While I fully support anyone who wants to move into the Nodak camp .... in reality, there is no reason to start switching votes at this point. Not when there is going to be a 3rd vote.

Assuming FH doesn't get 50+% of the vote.  But in that case I guess it doesn't matter if you voted either for RR or Nodaks, because combined they would still be less than 50% total.

You should send a letter to the editor for the GF Herald...

True, that part of it really comes down to who voted for Sundogs and Northstars. It'll be interesting for sure. and this is all assuming that Kelly doesn't change the voting to add No Nickname or Sundogs back into the mix.
