Coming from someone who voted for Roughriders:This is an outstanding post. I'm embarrassed for those criticizing others who support Nodak or any other name. Look, we were all handed 5 shytty nickname options when we compare them to the Fighting Sioux. As for the vocal Roughrider crowd, three months ago, you were all about respecting the process and taking the hand that was dealt in stride. Now that the early frontrunner "Roughriders" is threatened, you're accusing Nodak voters of trying to sabotage and harm UND. That sort of rhetoric is downright ridiculous. I think we are all aware of how immature student age kids can be. Including our own student. Bottom line is, any and every name will get made fun of in some way. Do you think if we are the Roughriders, nobody will find some type of improper or repulsive name?I see Roughriders winning a close race, though Nodaks has a chance. Either way, lets just go with it. Hell either way, I'll be wearing my Sioux jerseys to the hockey games, and I'll probably wear my old sioux shirts to the football games. Who cares? Maybe I'll buy a Roughrider or Nodak hat. No, not saying you falsified anything, just thinking it is hard to know the real pulse with a small sample size. I think I get a good inkling from a bunch of people I know, only to be surprised when I sample more of them. Some input from campus is better than none, no matter the sample size, especially for those of us that are completely out of touch with the mindset. The reasoning behind these votes really doesn't matter. Everyone gets their vote, that's it. I find fighting hawks incredibly bland. Unfortunately, because someone came up with a cool logo for the fighting hawk it is inevitable UND wouldn't use it, so I was afraid we would end up with a chicken hawk logo, so I went with Nodaks. Lets all deal with that and get ready for it. Right now, our fanbase (at least on this forum) could be considered laughable the way we are going at each other. We all support the same, school, teams, players, etc .... Might as well get ready to support whatever name comes out of this dumb process.
