As much as some people dismiss this, FCS as a brand is looked at as inferior. A high performing athletics school like Wichita St doesn't like the FCS label. Why should UND. 1 Quote

As an FBS startup, they could play a weak schedule and avoid the Mvfc. Their basketball would eventually get them in the MW, AAC or CUSA. If joining today's FBS level provides a boost to self confidence to the alumni and will get them to buy tix, then by all means join up if you can find a conference home. Getting kicked around in the mvfc (and trust me, they would get kicked around for 5 years at least) would not stroke their egos very well. They'd be playing GaState and UTSA type schedules with lots of naia/dii/diii/low fcs type comp for their first 2-3 years.
