jdub27 Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 This year's recruiting class is essentially irrelevant because we are in the process of doing something way more important. The new head coach has the potential to reboot this program to a playoff level for years to come. Sacrificing one recruiting class for a quality head coach hire only makes sense. With how inexact of a science recruiting is, I wouldn't call it irrelevant. It will definitely be a less heralded class when they sign, doesn't mean that the players won't develop into more than quality players. Quote

jackal Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 NAU got smoked by Montana State too and MSU isn't in the playoffs. NAU also didn't play Eastern Washington. By the way SDSU also almost lost to UND. That doesn't say much for the MVFC. LOL They did? Quote
geaux_sioux Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Freund and Myers is my understanding... I wonder if both are going to be retained for sure or if it's up to the new coach Quote
PrideOfTheNorth Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I wonder if both are going to be retained for sure or if it's up to the new coach I would imagine it would be up to the new coach. Quote
UND-FB-FAN Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 We do have two coaches currently recruiting so it's not quite a throw away class Forcing the new coach to inherit two assistant coaches from the previous regime is less than preferable. I don't agree with that. I'm also not worried about recruiting because the new coach will have over a month to accumulate recruits. Quote
CMSioux Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 We do have two coaches currently recruiting so it's not quite a throw away class Plus it was generally accepted here that if we kept last year's coaching staff the recruiting was going to be terrible anyway because no one wants to come to a school with a losing record, so if that was correct this year was gone anyway. There will be quality athletes that choose UND because of the education they will get - might not be as deep a class as we need but now it's short-term pain for a long-term gain. Back on topic track - wonder what a poll on this site would look like for those rooting for FU vs those rooting against FU? Quote

To answer your question I root against FU mainly because of the onslaught of trolling from FU fans. They have even resorted to trolling the Volleyball thread. I would be willing to bet that the majority on here do not go to their site on a regular basis. Quote

We had a losing record last season and had our best class ever. Quote
Matt Posted December 3, 2013 Author Posted December 3, 2013 Mods-do we need to move this to the recruiting thread? Quote
ndsubison1 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 The jacks may be able to hold ewu below their season average for scoring by limiting possessions, but even that will still require Sumner to make plays for the jacks to win. Ewu will do to them what the huskers did. Zenner will get yards, but they will be playing from behind which will put it in Sumner's hands. Here's the jacks' problem; Sumner isn't good enough to make enough of those plays Sumner will throw it to the other team Both of these things will result in the jacks losing, but turning in a respectable showing. very true but i see sdsu getting big yardage as well. i think there will be a lot of back and forth scoring. like you said, sumner must avoid turnovers. but i think their O can do some work on the ewu D. expecting a higher scoring game that will be within a td Quote
ndsubison1 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 YSU (one of the teams that was "left out" of the playoffs) lost to SDSU 42-13 in Youngstown the last week of the season but yet the Big Sky is terrible and overrated because their 3rd or 4th team in lost 26-7 to very next week to the same SDSU team while playing without their head coach? Not sure what NAU did in the 2nd half (wasn't able to watch), but I'm not buying the conference strength/weakness correlation from this game. and our 6th place team took your 3rd place team to the wire. just like your 10th place team took our 2nd place team to the wire. i think the conferences are fairly neck and neck., i would give slight edge to MVC but its not like one is head and shoulders above the other Quote

sprig Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Can't believe ESPN demands payment via ESPN3 (by your isp) or game plan to watch any of the playoff games on TV, prior to the championship. They've buried these playoffs so deep that only fans of the teams in the playoffs will watch. I guess they apparently won't even sell it to local or regional networks. Quote
