Csonked Out
This all makes sense to me....there were 2 finalists and Faison personally requested Deboer to apply. As far as I know the same can't be said for Bubba(correct me if i'm wrong). That would make me believe that unless Deboer royally screwed up the interview that it was his to lose. Woden
If it is DeBoer, I'm happy he can come put back together what he helped destroy (from the opposing sideline). His head coaching record speaks for itself, I don't care what level it was at. You don't end up with as many national championships as total losses and not know how to coach. His results as an OC were a mixed bag, it is what it is but that is not what he's being hired to do. Bring in a strong assistant staff and get the ship turned around. Let's not forget the influence a HC has on an OC. Look at Caruso. As OC at NDSU, ran power twice then chucked it deep on 3rd and long. Got to USD and all of a sudden was running empty backfield with two TE's. Formations were innovative and unpredictable, averaged 45 ppg and 500 ypg. Lennon prefers to run the ball and play D. I wouldn't be surprised if he tamed down DeBoer a little bit.
gfhockey
So... Heres the deal... What would you do? Spend 150 bucks and shop local and you know what ur getting? Or Spend 150 and go non local with a risk?

goyotes
DeBoer is a native of Milbank, SD and was a multi-sport athlete at Milbank high school. Milbank is in NE SD about 200 miles from Grand Forks. Also need to remember interview process is both sides determining if job is correct fit. Popular Post Witt
Until something official comes out, probably best to sit tight. This is a really fickle bunch here..wow All the NAIA and Kalen bashing reminds me of a guy named Hugh Freeze. He was the coach of Lambuth in the NAIA (2009), and his team lost early in the playoff badly..same year USF won it (back to back)....and then a few years later Hugh was the head coach at Ole Miss (and doing fine). The 2nd round of the NAIA playoffs was the furthest his team got and they didn't have longtime success or anything notable. Kalen has been the OC at SIU for 4 seasons and had his best offense this season..while his very good QB went down about 2/3 of the way through the year. Not bad considering the Valley is the top conference in FCS. Either coach (Kalen or Bubba) would be a solid hire in Grand Forks. Both would find a way to bring in a solid staff as well. There's a dynasty going on in Fargo....and some of the better players at UND have now left for what they see as better situations. There is a bit of a rebuild going on here whether admitted or not. Let the new coach come in and get things settled..some new bodies..and the starting of a change of culture. This wont occur overnight. As a fan (which most on here seem to be), the best thing you can do is show your support for whoever the new coach is go to the games....and cheer the team on. Just 2 cents from the bleachers..

iluvdebbies
I spotted a car that's looks like Faison car at Johnnys Lounge! walked in no where to be seen but some drunk bought me a drink Was it the guy in the mirror?
bincitysioux
If DeBoer is the guy he will get my support. But it would be rather peculiar hire IMO. To me it is peculiar that he is a finalist. There were probably 10 guys that applied with better resumes. If Faison was not the ad in 2009 when DeBoer embarrassed UND, he wouldn't be considered right now.

If DeBoer didn't embarrass UND he wouldn't have been considered. If Bubba wasn't at UND he wouldn't be considered. If there were ten applicants had better resumes than DeBoer, I wonder how many more applicants would have had better resumes than Bubba?
geaux_sioux
Both of these guys are really good football coaches. They each deserve out support. Don't try and bury a guy before he had a chance. I'm leaning towards Bubba for my preference but think DeBoer would be great as well. Maybe we can get both? UND-FB-FAN
I am balling my eyes out http://www.undsports.com//ViewArticle.dbml?DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=13500&ATCLID=204762729&SPID=40021&SPSID=334852 look how big our O line was. true hogs. and our D stopped the vaunted GVSU offense that year that tore up every pop questions - who was our d coordinator that came up with the game plan to stump them? And who was our offensive coordinator? How'd that work out?
gfhockey
Go non local if you can get more value. Its essentially the same product one has more experience and has a better defense other has less experience and has a better offense defense wins titles...look at fu
gfhockey
And who was our offensive coordinator? How'd that work out? yeah but our defense held the vaunted GVSU under 11 points....no other team that year can say that martin, who is now the coach at notre dame, said that was the best d2 defense has ever seen and has rivaled some d1 defenses. Wilbur
That game wasn't as close as the score either. That well coached NAIA team kicked our butts. Absolutely took it to UND on both sides of the football.

UND-FB-FAN
This is an embarassment to und history and football tradition! All the years of bubbas and dales hardwork and now we get some naia guy to keep up the mediocrity! Relax, if it is DeBoer, we'll be fine. You win three national championships at any level and you know how to coach. And Bubba's head coaching record is mediocre at best.
