Blackheart
I kind of like "Wildcatters" more than "Oilers"....Look at the Texas Wildcatters logo. http://www.sportslogos.net/logos/view/gf81mp9ppo8kxpf374bt/Texas_Wildcatters/2004/Primary_Logo Not bad...reminds me a little too much of the Grand Valley State logo, though... MafiaMan
How about the Houston Oilers logo in UND colors. Love ya blue! Rest in peace, Bum Phillips. Houston Texans...not the same.
GreenWing
Green Wings... as in the Green-winged teal. Might as well borrow another original six logo too

siouxjoy
Don't mind it...sounds too much like a minor league baseball nickname though Is that due to there being a Grand Forks Channel Cats baseball team in the late 90s?
GreenWing
Well if we're going that route then I vote Varmints
zonadub
Is this all going on behind closed doors? The legislature's moratorium expires next year and there does not appear to be much going on in the news about the new name. In light of Kelly's reaction to the Gamma Phi sign, should we expect a lame weather related soccer-style name like Northern Lights?

So you're sayin' that Northern Lights is too good a name for Kelly & co to come up with. So maybe he will want it to be the UND Kelly Green. Shawn-O
The Water Bears. They thrive in conditions that would be considered detrimental to most life on earth.
molden
Stanford used to be the Indians. They changed it to Cardinal, as in the color, not the bird. They're the Stanford Cardinal. Thusly, the University of North Dakota Emerald. That is the shade of green used, right? Could also implement the image of an emerald somehow. Before you jump all over me, I've been supportive of keeping the Fighting Sioux for years. Have been very supportive of the fight. I understand the emotions behind all of this. That's my penny's worth. I cheered for UND in the Frozen Four, and even had a small party with family to watch it. The cheer would be "let's go Emerald," not the plural. I'm already ducking. charliefunny
Keep it as it is now. Very Unique: no nickname and North Dakota as the logo. If the NCAA thinks North Dakota means allies or friends is offensive then ask Congress to change the state name. The fans can still yell LET'S GO SIOUX!

CMSioux
Wow - really Pontiac was an indian chief - who knew - (except just about everyone) Guess that FU education is really coming in handy as a professional website troller. Can you check and see if there are any other car models named after native americans and report back - I'll give you head start - start with Jeep.
