So did he decommit, or did Jackson pull the offer?  The way Schlossman worded it, it could be either way.

Isn’t he younger than many of the kids he’s playing with and against?

Yes, but if Jackson pulled the offer, maybe he wanted to act on getting people who are about the program and won’t skip town like Bumgarner did on other programs in high school. I imagine if he put up big numbers in his first year, that decision would be a lot harder, if indeed it was the coaching staff that pulled the offer.

I was worried we lost Schultz.

The 3 highschools in 3 years was always concerning.

Allegedly a lot of "Coach Dad" syndrome from his father meddling too much. You love when parents care, but you hate when they go over the top

Cooper Simpson with another goal tonight so far, making it 6 goals in 8 games.  In contrast Carson Pilgrim has 7 goals in 55 games.

I don't think so, he was the extra player and I watched him play for the Force last weekend. He didn't play a lot and was unnoticeable when he did. I'd say unless his game picks up he has written DIII on him. Maybe.

Hahaha, I didn’t know Jerry Seinfeld hung around these parts.

He’s also 16, my guess is Pilgrim will be next. I was told only reason we offered him was a chance at Shaugabay. Looks like he’s staying put in UMD for now.

That would be the dumbest approach to recruiting ever.  Rather than offer Shaugabay earlier, wait until he plays junior hockey, then even before he gets to Duluth, offer his linemate who you aren’t enthralled with a scholarship in hopes to get Shaugabay to transfer after a year at Duluth.   Going through that for Shaugabay, and not for the Slukynsky brothers seems insane.  I think this one would be an after the fact rumor, as it doesn’t seem plausible.

IIRC, Jay Hardwick (UMD guy and Warroad coach) steered Shaugabay in the direction of committing to UMD. I don't remember if the Bulldogs were the first to offer Shauagbay, but they certainly offered before UND. Pilgrim seemed like a fall back option later on.

The new head coach for your Fighting Sioux didn’t like his game as a 16 year old sophomore to be junior, that’s straight from his mouth and Jaysons dad. That’s why he isn’t here. Much like Mancini all the kid ever wanted to do was to play for UND. UMD offered right away and Jayson committed. Brad stepped in after Carson’s state tourney in 2023 and got him on campus right away and offered, weren’t missing on him like they did with his uncle (yes Jayson is Carson’s uncle).

Offensively Carson is struggling this year, barely any points on the score sheet for the last 2 1/2 months, coincidentally with him moving down the lineup to a 3rd line role. I personally think he’s lacking the confidence right now, all the tools are there. Maybe a change of scenery next year or commitment from the coaching staff next year and he’ll put up the 40, 50 or 60 points everyone is this forum wants him to put up.

Interesting dynamics with brothers....  perhaps Berry recalled Blais's stance with the Potulny Brothers.  Or a different perspective, the Toews Brothers.  I recall some jibber jabber on her that Jonathan was less than pleased with the UND/David situation & results. Did the program lose a potential ally?

Will be interesting to see if the new coaching staff has a wait and see approach on Carson.  Hopefully he realizes his potential, but a bad plus minus and lack of production is going to need to be remedied if he hopes to take the next step.

All of this is evidence supporting having a position specifically dedicated to talent evaluation.  It has to be incredibly difficult for a coach to personally evaluate thousands of young players when the seasons largely overlap.  They have to rely on others to fill in the massive gaps.  It sounds like BC is a great choice.

As far as brother situations, that has to be a very difficult consideration.  In the Slukynsky situation, the older brother appeared to be a role player at best.  I highly doubt the fan base would have been ecstatic about signing him with the prospect of landing his younger brother (who was 14-15 at the time) and plays a position incredible difficult to evaluated at that age relative to what they will be at 20 years old.
