He’s 19 and plays for Portland Winterbawks.  Hockeydb classifies him as a defensive forward and grinder. (Their word, not mine)

Though Zakreski flashes exciting skill at times, his impact is most consistent in pursuit. He’s a hard-working forechecker capable of leveraging his physicality into quick offence in the slot. The motor stays running on the backcheck and inside the defensive zone. -EliteProspects 2024 NHL Draft Guide

Might have some limited offensive potential too, though not super high end potential. Plays in Portlands power play, penalty kill, and 3x3 situations. Was a Flyers camp invite this past summer. Appears to play with more of an edge to his game. Scored an OT winner a few weeks ago and shushed the away crowd. Wears an A for them as well.

So I assume you've seen him play?

Can someone make a photo of Brad Berry morphing into Mike Eaves.

He does have the same number of goals as Gavin McKenna, but obviously not the assists.   Just looking at the description, it is exactly the type of player we need, someone who always has his motor running.  Could use a few more guys that work consistently hard, and force the other guys to take a look in the mirror.  If we could get a Ben Strinden comparable, I would take that in a heartbeat.     I do question the defensive end of the equation they talk about because of his +/-, but sometimes that isn't always as transparent as it seems, and not seeing him play, I would defer to someone who has.  Probably not going to be a huge producer at the college level, but need to change the standard for a more consistent work ethic.

I didn’t mean that negatively, I meant that as a fact. If this guy cracks the lineup it will be as an energy, 3rd/4th liner. Maybe he works himself up. Who knows.  His +\- is slightly concerning…but the Dub is where guys put up huge numbers, he doesn’t which is odd as an over ager coming to a program like ours. I’m sure my expectations may be a bit skewed, or like others, were still waiting on that “big fish”. Again, this could be a nice depth add. Lastly…never mention Gavin McKenna and this guy in the same sentence :)

No, I know you didn't.   Not comparing him to McKenna or  Catton at all, only saying his goals were comparable, so maybe he has some finishing ability if he has a set up guy feeding him.  Obviously McKenna is still very young and the fact he is dominating that level is impressive on its own.

Question is, will he spend another year in the W as a captain, or come next year? Gotta wait for Brad's write up to confirm.

He’ll come in. 19 years old rn, we need centers and goal scorers so badly next year.

Schlossman briefly mentioned in another article from today that he will be here next year.
