NCHC Frozen Faceoff - Xcel Energy Center

So if Denver, UMD, St Cloud State, and North Dakota were all in the NCHC Frozen Face-Off at the Xcel Energy Center, it wouldn't be quite the same because the jersey patches say NCHC on them instead of WCHA?  There were several years of no Gophers at the Final Five and the tournament didn't miss a beat.

I don't think so. The landscape of the conference realignment has changed so much that a venue change wouldn't do much for attendance. If they bring it to the Xcel, are we automatically going to get an extra 4-5000 fans? Very doubtful.  A lot of these teams need time to develop a good rivalry between them before the NCHC takes off. I also believe that the NCHC wants to be known for their OWN tournament, not be known as a spin-off of the WCHA.

Including the annoying jerks that showed up drunk near us, year after year.

Is it possible that UMD and SCSU fans - and the two Denver fans who made the trip to the X every year - are as unhappy with Target Center as some of us?

The UMD and SCSU fans must really hate Scheels arena too because neither fan base sold out their allotment each year.

As much as it pains me to say it....you can't ignore the contribution the Gopher fans made toward the atmosphere of the tourney. A good chunk of them still showed up even though their team wasn't there.

Or more importantly the Wisconsin fans.  Far more atmosphere creating than Gopher fans.  The cratering of their program hasn't helped the dismal showings at the Big Ten tourney.

While the contract hasn't been signed, it's looking like the Frozen Faceoff will return to the X starting in 2018-19.  However, if Target Center decides they don't want to have it during this lame-duck year, the tournament could move to the X for this next season, as the Wild are not at home that weekend.

While not formally discussed, there is the off chance it moves to the Ralph for this coming season if TC pulls out and the X doesn't have open dates.

Seems like there should be some way to have the NCHC at the X and the Summit League tournament at Target Center.  :xmas:

Next couple of weeks.  The TC isn't too happy since they just installed a new cooling system.

Not sure why they would be too upset.  Did they really install a cooling system for the only use to be for the Frozen Faceoff?  Most likely not.  Well, now they can compete with the X to get Disney on ice in their building now!!

Isn't there supposed to be Regional basketball games at the Target Center a couple years down the road?

Guess the regional isn't until 2021, but still, they are looking ahead, why wouldn't the NCHC.

As a "casual" hockey fan that has been making the trek to the Target Center the last 4 years, I'd like to experience this before the NCHC moves it to the X.................

New views at center of Target Center's $140 million renovation

It's going to be nice and hopefully the NCHC keeps the event at the Target Center. This league isnt the old WCHA, it's time to let the good old days of the Final Five die. Moving the league tournament to the Xcel will do more harm then good.
