If a kid declares for the portal their scholarship if they are on one should automatically end at the end of the current semester whether they decide to return or not.

I agree with this, but how many athletes are enrolled in the spring semester after hitting the portal? Seems most are looking to get to the new school and get enrolled for spring ball.

Significance?

It's the team we just played. A Tarleton player announced he was transferring at halftime of their playoff game today. I'm sure he won't be coming here, just thought it was a funny/sad reflection of the portal and of this player.

Unreal.  Not sure I would want that to be the first impression I made on a new school.  Hopefully the kid had something lined up already.

Even if he did have something lined up I sure wouldn't be impressed.   How dumb can you be?   He'll probably dump on the next team as well.   I know the portal is a fact now and we have to deal with it but I absolutely don't get excited about transfers, in or out.   My motto is, once a transfer always a transfer.   They'll dump you in a heartbeat when the next shiny thing come along.

Zero team play with these new ways.   There is definitely an “I” in team with these type of players.  Sickening

Wasn’t he out injured? Still a brutal look though.

Out for the year, but definitely something that could have waited until tomorrow.

Pretty close, both are quiting paid positions as these aren't amateurs anymore.

They're not employees, they're freelancers. If they complete a project within the confines of the contract are they not deserving of all remuneration included in that contract?

Do athletes have contracts with schools?

Of course. An athletic scholarship is literally a contract that includes what will be provided by the university in exchange for what the player must do in order to recieve that aid.

Yes, there are NIL contracts that are ADDITIONAL to the scholarship contracts that @southpaw is referencing.

UND uses these NIL contacts as well, as the current staff brought UND football up to speed (former staff with Bubba had no clue) …

Complex new world we live in now. The wild, wild West …

Its even further changed since the House Settlement allowing revenue sharing …
