I know I'm not breaking any news here, but although you can't officially enter until January 2nd, the portal is unofficially open. What I mean is I don't think you'll see a key player announce on January 2nd. Everyone will know who is / isn't before the window opens. Tough to see two key players who seemingly were gone regardless.

Always my least favorite week of the year. Just hope for no news.

Retention is the 1a priority of a coaching staff entering the offseason. Here’s my “must keeps”.

1. Rucker

11. Henry

12. Buxa

13. Devereaux

 

Any obvious ones I'm missing? Was Bluiett part of the Senior recognition?

Seidl was fun to watch and I thank him for his contributions. However, looking at his last six games in a UND uniform, it was tough sledding. Yes, some can be contributed to the O-Line, play calling, etc.

In addition to the YPC below, a fumble for a TD given up against USD, and another fumble against TT I believe it was. 

USD - 6.4 YPC on 16 attempts

NDSU - 3.0 YPC on 23 attempts 

Murray St. - 4.4 YPC on 22 attempts 

SDSU - 2.2 YPC on 15 attempts

TT - 2.3 YPC on 14 attempts

Tarleton St. - 2.3 YPC on 8 attempts

Don’t give NDSU that much credit.

UND graduates stay and support the region in ways NDSU graduates simply can’t. And yes, UND certainly prepares students to take their talents elsewhere as well.

So little effort put in from UND side. 

Will NDSU lose guys? Yes. Let's count impact players that portal out between the Dakota schools and see where UND finishes. Retention (IMO) is the most important step.

Appreciate SS and what he did here and wish him luck, but after the bag Marty Brown from NDSU got last year, not surprising to see him go.

As for his stats as the season wore on, lack of depth and needing to make him more of an every down back seemed to wear on his effectiveness. There were plenty of times he was an ankle tackle away from breaking a big run that he would have earlier in the year.

After Southern Illinois, teams decided they could not let UND run for 300 yards and be able to beat them. They started crowding the box and were willing to let WR and QB try to beat them. The more it worked the more teams did it. By Tarleton they had 9-10 guys within 5 yards of LOS daring the wide receivers to beat someone and QB to complete passes in smaller windows or way down field. Didn’t have personnel to do that.

UND has offered Wayne State (NE) defensive lineman Carter Sitzman. He has a pretty impressive list of offers, including NDSU, SDSU, USD, Wyoming, Tennessee Tech, Indiana St., Incarnate Word, Tarleton St., Kent St. and Buffalo.

NDSU loses guys every year.  This year will be much the same.  Izzo stated on his podcast on Monday it has been reported (rumored, however he finds out) that 2 of the players already at 6 figure NIL waiting for them.  

Pretty cool to see talented players from the Dakota and MVFC stick around no matter which team.  Boumann at USD for example.  YSU QB certainly could've left for a payday.  Lance could've had a large bank account.  etc....

A bit early, but I still feel good that this staff is on it. Doesn't mean there won't be losses, but they are building for the future.

It seems to me that most transfer portal decisions are mutual between players and coaches, at least at UND.  I think UND does a pretty good job managing that part.

Would be nice to get a commitment as there has been a few offers out, but I’m guessing they’ll have some guys on campus this weekend?
