2026 UND Football Season Thread

It would be incredibly unlikely Deng would leave with his brother coming in next year. Similarly you would think a local guy like Vig would be safe. I’ll add as you don’t want to take those for granted.

Retention is the 1a priority of a coaching staff entering the offseason. Here’s my “must keeps”.

1. Rucker

2. Seidl

3. Fleming

4. Vig

5. Eckheart

6. Deng

7. Becher

8. Olagbaju

9. Thaden

10. Noland

11. Henry

12. Buxa

Never bought in to JTJ; can Sulik or Higgins push? Or is it a portal? JK needs competition; when he made the job his the production dropped.

Can you get a new offensive coordinator in the portal?

All kidding aside, it seems like what Schmidt is saying is UND couldn’t run because teams loaded the box and UND needs to be able to sting those teams on the outside and couldn’t do that.

So that’s an OC, QB, WR problem. Could also be offensive line depending on how you want to look at. Even tight end. Multifactorial for sure.

The regression is what stings. UND had offensive production the first half of the season, then teams adjusted and/or UND played better teams, and UND then couldn’t readjust themselves. They lost the chess match.

Certainly shines the spotlight on our OC more than our players …

This has been UND's offensive problem for a long time.  I understand the desire to run the ball, but not all game situations are suitable for running.  Need an O-line (ours was ok to good), need a QB (our was good then regressed to bad), need an OC (ours was a second choice that probably was "forced" on the new HC to have a one-year trial period - a test he didn't pass IMO).

Now, wanting an O-line, QB, and offensive genius OC is what everyone wants but supply is limited.  It's like saying a basketball team needs big guy down low.  Yeah, everyone knows that and wants that, but that doesn't mean you're going to get it.

I interrupt this thread to note that the team south of GF lost a game in which the other team’s QB tossed 5 INTs,

We now return to our regularly scheduled ranting.

Lost a home game while getting 5 interceptions.

if we didn't have the stitcher we would've had two home games...and we might still be playing...start there.

10 years of special teams being really special....

start there..then Ike...

stitcher needs to go five years ago

Did you get cut as a 180lb long snapper candidate 10 years ago? Then this might make sense

Neither did I.  Don't know if what's needed is inhouse.  JK, Sulik, and the new recruit all came in/are coming in with great credentials.

Are we still searching for a 12th game for next year? Any rumors to what that could be?

We better be. Crucial getting to 12.

When is our next FBS money game?

Next year. Sept 19 @ Nebraska

Need a game August 29, not ideal having it be a road game already having a 1H to 2R non-conference, but w/ St Thomas being Home Sept 5, it’s doable.

Unless gobc steps up we loose Rucker to Iowa st

msybe we can keep Deng

Our under use of Deng was totally inept coaching.  I wonder how frustrated he is.

If SS goes to anyone in the FCS it will be the biggest kick in the balls we have ever had.

Yes and no. If he goes to an FCS school he is running from something, OC,  or he hears footsteps, Chuck and Colt and worries about snaps. Or he worries about the beating he gets in the Missouri Valley.I am pretty confident in who we have in the running back room if SS leaves. He’s a third down scat back for an FBS team unless he puts on 15 pounds of muscle over the summer. He’s a tremendous talent and would be a big loss. But this is the type of thing we need to be ready for a year after year.

We need to keep Rucker and the defensive line depth. Devereux is huge with Malachi  leaving. Would be nice to get one experienced field, flipping type of receiver, from the portal.
