The Alerus is a hell of a homefield advantage for UND.  That'll be a real playoff doozy in the future.  I don't think Mr. Schmidt will be in Grand Forks very long.  And by that I mean....that is a good problem to have.  I don't see UND having a problem with SDSU with or without their starting QB and I'm thinking a semifinal appearance come playoff time.  The defense is nasty and any rankings coming out that have them outside the Top 10 is flat out dumb.  Yeah there's 4 losses....but good grief, only one real "turd" if you can even call it that.

I'm not gonna be surprised if there's another meeting in Fargo this year.

I don't think NDSU's coach will be around much longer either.   If there is another meeting this season I don’t think it will be quite as close as this one was.

Don’t lower the expectations. Only one expectation is okay and that’s Nashville.

Go 1-0 each week.

Yeah, that'd be great.  What I mean is that a quarterfinal game appearance would show growth, which is a reasonable/attainable goal.  If we get to the quarterfinal game, heck yeah, let's evaluate a new reasonable/attainable goal, which may be Nashville.

Unfortunately I have to agree. Defense played a monster game, we aren't holding them to 15 again in the Fargodome.  NDSU is the better overall team, but we had a chance for the upset and blew it. If we played them in the Fargodome in the playoffs, I dont think its as close as last Saturday.  That said, we have proven we can play well on the road under Schmidt, so not saying we couldnt win, but I sure wouldn't be betting on it.

Laces didn’t look out but tough to see. They weren’t facing the kicker either. You may wish to look  where the laces were on KO’s. (Our kicker placed the ball on the tee with laces facing him).

The missed FG had nothing to do with the laces, he just jerked it left. Kicking laces may cost distance on longer kicks, but aren’t an issue from that close.

Virtually every fan is frustrated with the bizarre play calling in key situations. Most fans are frustrated with our QB play the last 2 games. Most fans are frustrated with our FG/kicking struggles. Most fans with a FB IQ above that of a cabbage see those issues, (not the holder on FG’s) as the key areas we need to fix if we are going to win out. We can make a run this year but we need to win the last 2.

Excellent analysis - however I'm not confident about any course corrections - our OC has not learned a thing throughout the season - if anything he's gotten worse.  I don't see the lightbulb in his head going on anytime soon - and if our HC was going to change anything there it would have been done by now.  A new OC is the only solution.  Jerry has also regressed this season - not sure why or what the solution is.  We are stuck with our kicking personnel and just have to hope for the best.  I honestly thought one thing that would improve from Bubba's regime would be in-game play calling and management - but I was wrong.  We pissed away 3 games against tough opponents that we should have won.  We have fantastic defense - definitely an upgrade in both personnel and schemes from last year.  Time for our HC to earn his paycheck and make some tough changes.  We should be able to win the last two if we don't shoot ourselves in the foot again.

And if we’re going to throw it at the goal line, why would we not throw to 6’5” Deng Deng??

Is Deng in the dog house?

Depending on how rest of the year goes, there could be a couple of coaching changes in the off season. There won't be any though mid-season. I get the frustration of a few who said the OC should be gone by Monday,  zero chance that was gonna happen or even during the rest of the season.

Look at NDSU non conference schedule compared to UND

if UND had that schedule I think there would be 2 more wins, they end up with St. Thomas in 2 weeks.

i like our schedule so hopefully it doesn’t bite UND in the ass come playoff picking time

Business kept me from watching until replay last night.

Not scoring from the 3 to make 14-3 is inexplicable. And the pivot of the game.

That lesson best be learned and not repeated.

I also want our QBs to change plays at LOS or in the huddle (if we ever huddle). They if they get their ass chewed so be it, but we shouldn’t be trying to get a 4th and inches running our QB from 5-7 yds in the backfield. We have championed our OLine. Aren’t they supposed to be the “Moving Company” or something like that?  1st and goal at the 2 1/2 yd line is the time you as a staff send a clear message that they have full confidence in the oline to impose their will on the defense.

Exactly. And ya we weren't getting huge yards running up the middle but we also weren't hardly ever getting  negative or 0 yards. We'll of course the 4th down run out of the pistol at the 50. But everyone and their grandma knew what the play was. I don't get that play at all if you say you dont have the confidence running it 1st n goal from 3. So frustrating.

We really missed Gavin, also gotta think some of our skill players must be in the doghouse.

All a matter of perspective. First of all, too many UND fans are still too supportive of those arrogant a$$holes; the amount of “it’s good for the state, I cheer for both, blah, blah, blah” I heard yesterday from die-hard UND supporters in attendance is nauseating. This is relevant because it contributes to this inflated opinion that ag college is invincible. They aren’t. Don’t buy into all that Fargo propaganda crap.

Secondly, any chance the ag college offense looked poor because the UND defense and venue atmosphere was just that good? Of course! But, conversely, the ag college defense was very stout and impressive looking at times yesterday.

I have said it before and I will say it again:

I would rather walk barefoot on molten glass than cheer for NDSU in any sport.

The only exception to one of our fans supporting FU is if one of their kids, grandkids, nieces or nephews are playing for one of their teams. Other than that, it is pure treason.

I agree. And for anybody questioning whether Schmidt is willing to make difficult personnel decisions, keep in mind that he chose not to retain two or three defensive assistants from last year despite having pretty long histories with them. I'm sure that wasn't easy, but it looks to have been the right decision.

Ya FTB. The worst are oh I'm a ndsu fb but UND hockey fan. FU n stay in fargo. N of course I had 8 bison fans sitting by me at the game and 1 guy start cocking off during our player introductions n I couldn't restrain myself and told him to stfu and woulda probably been worse but had my daughter and her new bf was with so had to restrain a lil more than wanted to.lol

But I was sure giving it to him all game when Payton couldn't hit the broadside of a barn on some of those throws but unfortunately Jerry missed n rushed a few throws as well. Argh

Good points.

I think Fruechte needs to move on and I think Schmidt needs to tap into his list of contacts he has made during his coaching career to find somebody else to run the offense. Fruechte was a holdover from the previous staff and it may make sense to bring in one of Schmidt's guys who knows what he wants out of the offense.

I told a FU fan on Facebook a few weeks ago that he will rue the day Eric Schmidt was hired to run UND's program. Despite what happened on Saturday, I still believe that.

25 years ago at the WCHA Final Five at Target Center, some guy told me he was a Sioux Hockey Fan, a Gopher Basketball Fan and a Bison Football Fan. That is the strangest combination of fan loyalty I have ever heard.

Not running the ball once from first and goal at the 3 was the critical turning point in the game.  Should have made it 14-3 there.  Instead we get nothing.  There is ZERO excuse to not run the ball there.  If it takes you 4 times and you still don't get it, so be it.  Can't overthink it there.  Inexcusable play calling from Isaac there.

Agree 100%

I don't care what Fruechte "saw on film that he thought might work", inside the 5, you run the damn ball! We were moving the ball on the ground, there was no reason to get away from the running game. Fruechte is too eager to be a mad scientist and experiment when the K.I.S.S. principle would save all of us a lot of grief.
