And I remember the blocked punt against Stony Brook that year too that cost us the game. I said a handful of times the year or two after that, that Kostich needed to go....I was so pissed about Stony Brook and Richmond game. But then....you know what, I let it go. Our kickers have struggled for sure, but overall our Special Teams have been pretty good. And because I brought up Simon, doesn't mean I wasn't one of the people pissed that Jerry didnt get some playing time last year, almost all of us were. The amount of times you mention Kostich or Simon each week though.....my god. Maybe hop on your bike and go burn off some Kostich/Simon frustration each day. 4 Quote
Sioux94 Posted Sunday at 05:32 AM Posted Sunday at 05:32 AM We are still a top 10 team. Played our worse game of the year, literally gave the 16 points and we still almost won. We are a good team, we were not good today however. I would feel a lot worse if we were getting gashed up and down the field, but our defense gave up 10. Still frustrating as heck today though. I expect a great game next Saturday. Quote
LH Golfer Posted Sunday at 01:15 PM Posted Sunday at 01:15 PM Despite being on the field for most of 1st half, the defense played well in the 2nd half and kept UND in the game. Quote
wheelsup Posted Sunday at 02:59 PM Posted Sunday at 02:59 PM Defense played well except for being a wet paper bag at the end of the 2nd quarter.. offense really struggled and Jerry took some big hits and missed a lot of open receivers. Seems like a tough kid.. not sure how sustainable it is to have him run the ball 10+ times a game. Both teams with 10+ penalties.. USD clearly wanted to turn it into a rock fight and they were successful. All of that being said.. still should have won that game.. played our worst game all year and still should have won. Quote
Und Princess Posted Sunday at 03:24 PM Posted Sunday at 03:24 PM My UND-USD postgame will be up tomorrow evening with the brand new rankings!!! I plan to mesh them together tomorrow!!! Quote

Coaches might be aware enough to know that good teams can get awoken to be even better after a tough/bad loss but college age players could see it as they had no problem with USD in their matchup and they whopped #2 SDSU and mentally not be prepared, no matter how good they area. I really don't think the Fargo boys will be under estimating UND on Saturday because they lost yesterday. The Fargo boys' coach mentioned after the game that he is happy they had a 4 quarter game yesterday because the coaches will have their full attention this week. UND will win Saturday because they are the better team. Quote
ND-fan Posted Sunday at 05:17 PM Posted Sunday at 05:17 PM Yesterday number of teams struggled to win or lost so what is up and I think we have reached mid season part of the season where all teams are playing banged up and opponents are taking advantage of these weaknesses. In FCS replacements we see usually fall off in number twos and threes but in number FCS teams these reserves are freshman and sophomores they get better as they play especially on top teams. We saw this couple season go with SU we beat them but they became better team by end of the season. I think we can get better and hopefully we get couple players back. I don’t think SU will not be up for us if they beat us they are assured of going undefeated for the season and will play at home for the playoffs. If we beat them like I have said before it’s going to take perfect game by us and they giving up couple plays like turnover or special teams score. The sad thing about yesterday’s loss pretty much puts us on road for the playoffs when we could have been home until semifinals. Quote

Need to understand that this team is still 2 years away from getting all the players this staff wants. There's lots of good on the D, I think the QB is fine, but will have more struggles against better teams and I need to lower expectations for the next few weeks. Can't have that many TO's and hope to W. Not blaming refs and you can, but this team took too many stupid penalties today. Is the opening spread next week Bison 14.5 or more? Didn't get to see the game but sounds like we didn't play great for most of it. Would be nice to get that last drive and steal one. We had that chance both at Montana and yesterday. Difference for me over recent past is that we don't have to be perfect to have a chance to win. Good defense and QB play will do that for you. Jerry has been great but is only in first year as starter and will get better. If we can hold onto our commits we will have a super freshman class next year and expect the same with future classes. Way ahead of schedule from what I expected. With that said we've got a great opportunity this year to make a lot of noise if we can win a couple more games in regular season. It all helps build for the future. 1 Quote
Sioux94 Posted Sunday at 06:11 PM Posted Sunday at 06:11 PM I was thinking leading up to this game, we could be witnessing a special season, but I felt I needed to see how this USD game played out. I still feel really good about this team and what they can do. When it comes to playoffs, I just want to be opposite side of bracket as NDSU. That is the only FCS team we probably cant beat at their place. Montana in the cold would be tough, but we were better than them the last time. I still think a deep, semi-finals type of run can happen, maybe more. We'll find out a lot this coming weekend. Quote

CMSioux Posted Sunday at 08:05 PM Posted Sunday at 08:05 PM I made the trip. So many quirky things happened during that game. Stopping them at the 1/2 yard line which lead to the blocked punt, we gave up more yards on punt returns than we have all year, the underthown interception on Jerry's attempt to throw the ball away, late hits, facemasks, there were more. All that and we had possesion two times in the last five minutes for the go ahead score. Also gotta say - if we had a FG kicker they were confident in, we could have got 3 back on that first possession and kicked the game winner on the second. Total perfect storm. Now we need two out of three to lock in playoffs. 2 Quote

homer Posted Sunday at 08:58 PM Posted Sunday at 08:58 PM Like I said, 1 step forward and two steps back. Lots to prove this week. The fluky plays are one thing but the lack of discipline on Saturday was pretty disappointing. Not a lot of leadership from the players which is all we heard about the last month. 1 Quote

Sioux94 Posted yesterday at 02:34 AM Posted yesterday at 02:34 AM I don’t know if he was ever asked about it, but on that one pick on the sidelines, there was a UND WR coming back towards Jerry. I think he may have been trying to dump it to him, but the DB covering the other WR peeled off his guy and stepped in front of the UND WR and caught it. I could be wrong, but I think that is maybe what happened and why it looked so bad and is why Jerry didnt throw the ball further out of bounds, think he was trying to make a play to that WR instead of throwing it away. We did not get our asses kicked. We had 4 backbreaking mistakes and still had two drives in the 4th quarter to win the game. We played terrible in the first half for sure, but get our asses kicked we did not. USD wanted it more at the start and Jerry played terrible. Throw in a punt block for a safety and a fumble in the red zone returned for a TD and that makes it pretty difficult to win. The way we played d in the second half, we can win any game. Just need to offense to do their job next game. 6 Quote

The defense overall was pretty good except for only a couple big plays like the td 3 guys whiffed on and they got bailed out by a few big penalties were we had em dead in the water. Quote

At one point, early in the second half, the d came on the field and you could see they were pissed off. Guys were barking at each other, not in the negative way, but in the, “they aren’t scoring on us again” way. And they delivered. I think we are our entire team embody that on Saturday. 2 Quote

Terrible INT followed by terrible tackling to allow that TD. 3 Quote
