Prospective Recruits

WDAY news was in Moorhead for the Moorhead-Roseau game tonight and they said that Dave Hakstol and Don Lucia were in attendance.

I believe they were mostly interested in looking at Roseau D-man Aaron Ness and forward Tyler Landman. These two are considered two of the best 16 year olds in the state.

If I remember right Aaron Ness' father played for the Sioux in the mid 1980's.

Does anyone have any details about Gregoire's injury? All that I heard was that is was lower body, but he was out for an awful long time.

From what I've heard, he had surgery on his ankle, but it didn't heal correctly, so he had to have additional surgery.

Anyone know where these kids are leaning towards playing?

Even assuming that Oshie and Toews leave in 07, we still have (for now I assume that Chorney stays, because of Edmonton's minor league situation and the fact they have a full defense, not because he is not ready) I also think we may luck into 1 more year with Oshie:

I count 11 forwards:

Ryan Duncan, Michael Forney, Chay Genoway (assume defense), Shea Hamilton, Rylan Kaip, Andrew Kozek, Ryan Martens, Brad Miller, Kyle Radke (assume forward), Chris VandeVelde, Matt Watkins, Darcy Zajac,

I count 6 Defensmen:

Robbie Bina, Taylor Chorney, Joe Finley, Chay Genoway (assume defense), Zach Jones, Brian Lee, Kyle Radke (assume forward)

Figure the team would like to have:

15 forwards & 8 defensman

Players that will come in 2007

Brett Hextall F

Brad Malone F

Derrick LaPoint D

Evan Trupp F

Jake Marto D

Additional Players that could come in 2007

Ben Blood D

Brett Bruneteau F

That means for 2007 we are sitting with 14 forwards and 8 defense.

In this scenario we would bring in Bruneteau, I suspect if we got Gregoire of Nash they would come and Bruneteau would be a 2008. In the unlikely event we got both, is SUSPECT that Hextall would be asked to defer, but I suspect that the Sioux would never let this happen and would only take Nash OR Gregoire. Of the two I find Gregoire to be the more likely. If I'm not mistaken it was posted that he had a scholarship offer (could be wrong). If Chorney leaves, I assume Blood comes, but playing time will be tight.

So I suspect either Gregoire OR Nash for 2007

I hope for Toews in 2008

2009 is a long ways away, but we have lost many "family Sioux" lately so I hope that trend stops.

Also note that we won't likely need many forwards for 2008 and with Toews, that will likely make 3 (Cichy, Toews, Bruneteau). I think that will be plenty.

Kelly is the third one. Courtesy of the salmon arm website. Sorry that I don't have better stats, but I tried.

19 C Kelly Zajac 47 9 17 26 18

Nolan is the last one and he play in a AAA tourney in GF last spring with the Winnipeg Jr. Jets. That is all I can find on him. I believe that he is around 14 yrs old.

Woog said that Toews told him he's still not feeling totally confident. How could could the DOT line be if Toews start to feel good.

Updated Shattuck Stats:

Note at the end it is Games G A Pts PIM

A couple of things to note, David Toews has picked up his scoring pace and has closed in of Shattuck's all WI top line

Novotny is still not scoring like others on the team.

Also Ben Blood, temper, temper...

With Blood and Hextall next year, our PK better be good...

Guess it all depends on what we lose on D in the off season if any. Right now, IMHO the only early departure risk I see is Chorney. The only for sure is Foyt. Not alot of room for defense unless Radke & Genoway move to forward.

I don't see Chorney going anywhere. You really have to be dominant to make the jump after your sophmore year. He is good, not dominant.

I disagree, I don't necessarily think that Zajac was "dominant" last season, but he clearly was ready. I do think that Chorney will be here 1 more year, just because the Oilers have a solid defense and no other place to put him.
