If you go to collegehockeyinc.com, there is a list of NHL First Round Draft Picks Who Played College Hockey. Since 2010, here is the breakdown: 1. Michigan 14; 2. BU 12; 3. BC and UND 9 (I included Pinto since he was the 1st pick of the 2nd round and meets any definition of "blue chipper); 4. Wisconsin 6; 5. Minnesota 5; 6. Denver, SCSU, Providence and Miami 2 each; 7. UMD, UMass, UConn, Northeastern, CC and Harvard 1 each. If you go back to 2003, UND does even better because they had 1 in 2003, 2 in 2004, 3 in 2005, and 1 in 2006. It seems that we outperform our NCHC rivals SCSU, Miami, Denver and UMD (your favorite school) Quote

So how has that worked for all the teams in front of UND in that statistic? Quote

Sounds like teams like Mankato, St. Cloud, Western during this season. Crazy thought?!?! Lol 1 Quote

Lol Also, another thing in common with those teams is that they have some older players that have played in their system for a while. We've seen how likely it is that the average freshman is going to struggle to adapt to the college level, so having guys that have gotten past that stage is huge, and why you see a lot of these veteran teams do well during tournament time, even against more talented teams. That is why I don't necessarily think you automatically throw away guys that haven't produced after the first year or two, because at the very least they know what you expect from them and at least most likely won't struggle at both ends of the ice. Obviously some guys need a change of scenery, but a lot of times that third year is when guys start to really get it, like Collin Adams. Quote

Walsh Hall Posted January 27, 2022 Posted January 27, 2022 It appears, on average, there are 5/6 "blue chippers" per year. Out of those, a good chunk have to be basically unrecruitable based on ties to particular programs. There's probably around 3 "blue chippers" per year that are actually in play. Every team is in on those guys. Landing one of them every few years is pretty impressive. Our facility and history are second to none, but living in GF has to be a big turn-off to some of those kids. Over that last decade how many recruiting battles has Minnesota won? Their blue-chippers all seem to be guys that aren't going to seriously consider other schools. Quote

Agreed…you can never complain about a freshman…especially one playing on a 3rd/4th line and next to no pp time. Also to add some clarification. Blue chips are 1st rounders NUFD Quote
