I know he decommitted after BU recruited another top draft pick candidate. Top players want to play top minutes on top programs. NHL teams also want their draft picks playing significant roles. UND has talented players on the wing and have even more talent coming in a year (McKamey, Williams, Simpson, and Schultz). If UND gets the right guy(s) at center in the next couple of weeks, they are not only set up for next year but also set up even better for the year after. Imagine a lineup with Swanson, Gordon, Zellers, McKamey, and Williams with a guy putting up a PPG in the middle. If UND can grt a Boisvert type of recruit for next year, we are in a great position. Reading between the lines on Schloss’ pod yesterday makes me that UND is waiting on a very small group of CHLers to fill their remaining spots. They probably have an idea who it is, they are just working on making sure that player is eligible for next season with the NCAA. 1 Quote

Rare instances of them going after non Minnesotans and it worked out for them almost as well as possible. I do wonder if Snuggerud & Chesley were in his ear when Cooley was decommitting from Notre Dame, in order to get him to go to Minnesota with them. Peer recruiting isn't as common in hockey as it is in football obviously, but it does happen from time to time. Motzko does recruit out of state more than Lucia and Woog, but that isn't super surprising since he did that when at St Cloud State. Regardless, Motzko and Minnesota really don't recruit Canadians except for a few older Junior A goalies. Quote

They're also waiting to see some of these guys' decisions on going NCAA or not, and what their NHL teams will say after drafting them this summer. McQueen, Reschny, Kindel, Lakovic, Smith, Bear, Cootes, Schmidt, Fiddler, Ravensbergen, Behm are all Dub guys who are talented enough to go to the NCAA in their D+1: they could be steered towards committing by teams such as Philadelphia, Detroit, Calgary, Montreal, St Louis, Columbus, Pittsburgh, etc if those teams are convinced the NCAA route is better for their development for the next 1-2 years before signing and turning pro. For what it’s worth Cole Reschny recently started following UND on instagram. So I am reading between the lines that he’s a player we are after that has some interest in coming here. 1 3 Quote

You absolutely, 100% don't want one of the team captains hitting on other teammates girlfriends. That is for sure a way to fracture some team solidarity. Also you probably don't want the HC to play the lesser skilled upperclassmen in more prominent roles that could be given to higher skilled underclassmen. That can cause some division, especially if the team is under-performing. Just spitballin' here. 5 Quote

Here’s hoping we don’t start to see a lot more “competing interest” just to drive up the NIL offers in this new landscape. Not saying that’s happening here, just occurred to me some will be trying to create bidding wars. Still recall UND being used as a threat for some prospective targets to manipulate the draft by their preferred CHL team. Strange new world… Quote

Other than a prospect that has been there before like Sacha Boisvert and put up points in college hockey already, it's crazy to see these huge ploys to pay a player in college hockey. Are some of these big recruits worth a $100K or more to come to a school? The answer is no, but that is currently the landscape of college sports. 1 Quote
siouxfan512 Posted Tuesday at 02:22 PM Posted Tuesday at 02:22 PM Any new info on Mckenna? I know some on here have said we had no shot at him, but his season is over and still no commitment, which makes me wonder if he is still openly being recruited. Rumors? Thoughts? Quote

atxsioux Posted Tuesday at 02:35 PM Posted Tuesday at 02:35 PM I’m a little more optimistic than most. Naurato seeming to be kinda incompetent might help us out in the recruitment. We’ll hear his commitment in the next 1-2 weeks after the memorial cup is over. He’s gona get some ridicule for going the NCAA route so don’t blame him for waiting to commit post CHL season Quote
