Maybe he already has an associate's job lined up for someone in the F4 or CHL that needs to be under wraps until a more appropriate time. Can't imagine him having only 2 assts under him, unless the 3rd happens to be someone in a GM role.

GM would be player development which there is someone currently. Look at all the big teams and that have a former player at that role. UND might need a shake up in their hockey ops and reorganize the positions.

If there's already such a position, then why all the talk here about bringing Chyzyk in & the mention by Schlossman that a GM may be a good idea?

Part of me wants to get a message on Thursday reading:

”Head Coach Jackson is currently unavailable to complete the press conference as previously scheduled. He is deep in the trenches of talking with CHL players and coaches, potential recruits, and players in the portal.  He has not slept in the last 72 hours due to rebuilding a roster. If anyone is willing to sponsor 2 weeks of Red Bull to keep his momentum going, please contact AD Chaves for drop off. Thank you”

Usually a press conference is held immediately when the new coach hits town.  Since Jax is here, guessing every waking moment (and many of the rest) have been spent communicating with players (current or prospective), finalizing assistants, etc.  No time for an earlier presser.

My hope for Dane's Thursday presser:

- clarity on what will change in style of play
- a vision of modernization (play, staff)
- acknowledgement on recruiting shortcomings and a plan
- addressing NIL (aka pay for play, which it really is)
- a tease of what to expect as the roster is presently 6F, 7D, and 1G!

No need to acknowledge recruiting shortcomings and throw shade at the previous coach.   Just fix it, that's all.

I’d bring him in and overhaul the hockey ops. That’s where I’d have Chyzyk. UND shouldn’t be your first time being a coach. Of the 10 schools I checked last night only Providence has a position of GM (it also Director of Hockey Operations like other schools).

The guy currently in player development played high school at one of the Grand Forks schools and I think he was Mr Hockey North Dakota, he also coached in the USHL.

Michigan State has a lawyer in player development and he runs or works with the NIL program there.

Agree on the public talking points message. But critical for the program: the assistant coaches. Those picks are going to be the linchpin for more players hitting the portal & keeping recruits. We have 0% dynamic offensive coaching experience as of today. Multiple opinions/rumors/plain B.S. on here which coach was really running the offense lately, no matter your opinion, we are a 1,000 miles from the "Speed Kills" offensive teams that won championships. Unless Jackson is going outside "the family", the current rumored coaches are not going to cut it. Smaby had no offense to his game, neither does his current USHL team. Simpson, yes, but still a dman. Karl ran the PP, fired him. Chyzk, maybe, but outside of Sioux fans, do recruits/portal players know him or his reputation? I'm not sure. Looking at that line-up sheet with all those holes, it has got to be a BIG name with serious offense street cred. to keep what's left and bring in goal scorers.

So who do we want to fill the assistant job that is open?

Preferably someone who will take the offense, which is currently on life support & about to flat line, & resuscitate it with some bold, modern ideas.

maybe carle never leaves...we don't know.

From McMahon's newsletter today:

"

An executive search firm has been reaching out to potential coaches about a potential opening.

I realize that’s vague.

But from what I’ve been told, there is a firm quietly working in the background trying to gauge interest in a college hockey head coaching job, “if it were to open.” Several coaches have been contacted by this firm.

Details are sketchy, but I’m going to keep working on it. It’s possible we haven’t seen the last coaching domino fall this offseason.

"

That's either Carle or Pandalfo
