Yeah, no reason not to take a wait and see approach.  From what it sounds, a fresh coach would most likely have been starting with a rebuilding year, and there is no guarantee they would have succeeded in that either.  It’s possible they could improve substantially next year under Jackson, and if they don’t, we might be back at the same place 3 years down the line, which is probably the same timeline for a complete rebuild anyway.  Let’s see how it works out before the pitchforks come out.

If Danes breakout system is this throw it off the boards or loft it up to center ice and have the forwards try to track it down time after time, I'm already through with Dane Jackson. Teams who do this as much as we do are saying we cannot play at the same level as the opponents and we will just have to rely on a bounce of the pick to have a chance.

At least Bubba Schweigert was younger than Dane Jackson when he was hired to be the head coach.

Both got the positions because of the UND connection,

Over younger, rising stars (chippahs) with more hunger and drive.

Dane, like Berry, now has to learn to run the entire program. As both had never really been a head coach of anything before (unless you count Dane replacing the one coach who died during the season).

Hakstol and Blais, had head coaching experience and were "young"...not hard to see a clear pattern of key ingredients that separate these two groups:

Agreed. If I'm an AD & I'm trying to extend my already tenuous career, hitting the easy button & hiring the much-admired Jackson doesn't sound like a very wise move. Expectations will be immediate & the team better be bang-on from the drop of the puck next year. 

Whereas if Herter was chosen, he easily gets a 3-4 yr grace period to establish himself considering he's new & that some players may bolt because of him. But considering his body of work with UMD & Western, it sounds like it doesn't take him a long time to help turn lesser-resourced teams around. Plus hiring him likely cleans up the multitude of D issues in short order.

Like many others, I’m starting to come around and get on board with Dax. He wasn’t my first choice, as some magical fresh start and mystery candidate that would blow us away was so appealing. But, mostly I was just frustrated with what we’ve seen most of the last decade.

It’s requiring me to put away my Internet ego, that even though I know I don’t have the facts, I somehow know better than the AD & Martinson, previous & existing players, NHL/AHL GM’s, (rumor) Hak’s endorsement, etc. 

Some food for thought for those pissed that the “players are holding this decision hostage“.. these players: 1) know hockey at an elite level with exposure to the best, and worst of coaches out there, 2) are deeply personally invested in their development, skills, and ability to get to the next level 3) get to see Jax every day, and are giving their full vote of confidence that they’d rather play for him than any other coach in the country (college or next-level of pro), 4) know that he is going to be no nonsense and push them extremely hard, but are still willing to run through a wall for him,  5) came to UND to WIN, and 6) know exactly what is, and isn’t, going on within that locker room including Barry being out, and are getting immediately behind Jax.

I’m not saying that the players should be able to make the decision or should make threats about the outcome, but why shouldn’t they have an important voice in the hiring decision of who’s the right guy to lead them and their peers? To me, this makes them a very reliable indicator of who’s the right man for the job. If you lineup all of those points above, they hit on nearly everything that we as a fan base want to see in the next head coach, and the players certainly know better than any of us what they’re getting with him.

The biggest thing still remaining for me is can he modernize the game and make the decisions that will keep them at an elite level, given all of his recent experience is executing the systems and product that we’ve been seeing and are frustrated with. I’m cautiously optimistic his choices in the staff he builds around him will be enough to put this to rest. 

Plus as an added bonus, the guy will work harder than anyone, bleeds green, and if he does find big success.. is much more likely to stick around and continue it vs. just using it to quickly leapfrog into the NHL.
