January is when it all changed for this season and when the admins starting thinking seriously of replacing Berry. The ASU weekend was turbulent and when the tension between Berry & Jackson kind of overflowed...rumor is that they almost came to blows. Then the horrible home weekend against WMU. Then the following weekend when the "Jammer incident" occurred during the bye week. The admins started hearing about these issues from players, staff, and team personnel. Players were not happy with how Berry handled the Jammer issue...Dane wanted to handle it in a different manner that aligned with what the players wanted as well. Berry is a great guy, no one is stating otherwise. I think he got taken advantage of a bit with that and he couldn't make the tough choices, especially with this year's senior class, their playing time & roles, and the Jammer issue. By the time the season ended, the decision to replace Berry had already been made and had been in process for at least a month or more. 7 Quote

Also, the chippers will be around only one or two years before the NHL dangles those ELC's in front of them, so you'll be trying to win with freshmen and/or sophomores, who are notoriously inconsistent until they get used to the speed and size of the college game vs. Juniors. As we literally just witnessed with the Bentley/BC game. BC's team of chippahs squeaked out a win against Bentley. 1 Quote

We need to focus on things we can control and location is not one of them. It always will be, however DU hockey isn’t the only show in town and they aren’t the best show in town or even in local sports. There is pro sports , then college football and basketball. Third fiddle. At UND you are the show in the city and throughout most of the state. It’s a big deal. That can be an attractive sell to some. 1 5 Quote

Popular Post yzerman19 Posted Friday at 09:16 PM Popular Post Posted Friday at 09:16 PM I think I stated it the other night, but what I really care about is having the opportunity to win while watching a team of elite talent play a fast, skilled game. Kids I am going to keep watching at the next level like I did Toews, Oshie, Parise, Zajac...none of which who won a Natty but 2 of which combined for 4 cups. With a team like we had back then or like BC has now, you never counted yourself out. Sure we lost in the NCAAs, but talk about fun hockey every friday and saturday night. I like the ride and the skill, not just the result. Horrible syle of play is why I will never pay to watch a Wild game, and that all stems from Lemaire. 2 3 Quote

What happened to his standards when his daughter took control of the nodak logo? Could this be the biggest red flag of all? This doesnt bode well for his integrity. How good of a guy is/was he? Is it possible the sioux lovers on this forum, dont want to see this for what it really is. Maybe we really dont know him at all. Did we all throw ourselves at Berry? Now we’ll give him a free pass for some seriously poor decisions? I still dont want to think badly of him. Is it possible he’s got dirt on the athletic dept? He knows where the skeletons are buried? Was a deal struck? His lips are sealed and so are unds? We dont know the whole story do we? Time will tell. Go sioux! You're speculating yourself in circles to the point you probably don't know what to think or say. Must be scary to have boogie men everywhere in your world. Quote

yzerman19 Posted Friday at 09:33 PM Posted Friday at 09:33 PM you know what just dawned on me with the chippaz? In order to be a true chippa these days, not only do you have to have the talent and the work ethic, but also you need to have parents with money. It is really rare to find a blue collar chippa in the US. So, some of the approach might be that these kids have always grown up knowing they will go to school and it will be paid for. Whether its hockey or a parental scholarship. So, they don't feel like anybody is really doing them a solid, its just another team they are making...no different than any other elite team, they are just 18 years old now. I don't think they are rude about it, its just that it doesn't feel that special or amazing, because it was always going to happen. 1 Quote
