How’d it go for UND last year after starting this season with a dismal exhibition effort against Augustana? Four for them, one for us. No one remembers how well we took care of our end of the ice. I do remember. Poor defensive play and structure. You can’t score goals, spending half of the game in your own end. Off your meds? 1 Quote

UND85 Posted Monday at 09:25 PM Posted Monday at 09:25 PM I'm planning my first trip to UNO for the games in November. Any recommendations on places to stay and which end does North Dakota shoot at twice? Thanks in advance. 1 Quote

The other indicator is the bench on the bottom says visitor, which means UND will shoot on the right (section 122) twice. Bring a whisk broom set! Quote
Popular Post brianvf Posted Thursday at 05:07 PM Popular Post Posted Thursday at 05:07 PM Strinden won the annual IronMan competition...3 time winner! Natural hat-trick of trophies for him. https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/ben-strinden-wins-third-straight-iron-man-competition Quote Ben Strinden didn't want to give up his Iron Man title. He told his teammates that, too. "He called his shot," UND coach Dane Jackson said. "He said he was going to defend his title and he did." Strinden, a senior forward from Fargo, won UND's Iron Man competition for the third season in a row. Quote Strinden is the first three-time winner since Cole Smith, who is now with the Nashville Predators. Smith won as a freshman, junior and senior. The last player to win three consecutive years was Chris Porter in 2004, 2005 and 2006. Porter played in the NHL for the St. Louis Blues and Minnesota Wild. Also good to see that some of the new players excelled in the competition as well. And no surprise on James winning the skating aspects. Quote Freshman forward Jack Kernan finished second. Freshman forward Josh Zakreski was third. Clarkson transfer forward Ellis Rickwood took fourth and Minnesota Duluth transfer forward Anthony Menghini took fifth. Senior forward Dylan James, who also missed a few tests, won all three skating speed competitions (6 meters, 10-20 meters, 35 meters). UND has started limited-hour practice sessions. Every player practiced this week. 2 3 Quote

Interesting that with focus on UND’s top-notch facilities, dedicated strength and conditioning, nutrition, etc. advantages that beyond Strinden it’s all freshmen and transfers rounding out the top 5. Hopefully not affected too much by the injuries holding them out from full participation, it’s too early to be dealing with injury limitations. 2 Quote

SpudsSioux Posted Thursday at 06:46 PM Posted Thursday at 06:46 PM That is odd. Could also be that these are the type of guys that Jackson and co: are recruiting (I know Zakreski was already committed, but Kernan, Mengini and Rickwood were all after the coaching change. 1 Quote

Esoteric Posted Thursday at 11:54 PM Posted Thursday at 11:54 PM A month-long review of the NCHCTV broadcast schedule has revealed a notable absence of scheduled games for the University of North Dakota's hockey team, including the upcoming matchup against Manitoba. This observation, coupled with an unsuccessful attempts to contact the network directly via phone and email for clarification, has led me to concern. Could anyone in the know, please provide information regarding whether UND's games are being distributed through a separate, exclusive broadcast agreement, such as one with Midco, for the current season? brianvf Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Schloss article on the captains: https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/bennett-zmolek-named-und-hockey-captain Quote Four players will be alternate captains — senior forward Dylan James, senior forward Ben Strinden, junior defenseman Abram Wiebe and junior defenseman Jake Livanavage. "I think they're all great picks," Zmolek said. "They all bring their own style into it, which I love. Even guys who aren't wearing letters are leaders. We have a bunch of leaders on our team." Players voted for the captains this week. Quote Zmolek had the most votes. "He just embodies North Dakota hockey," Jackson said. "He's tough. He's a character guy. He's a worker. He's accountable. He's a guy that calls it as he sees it. There's not much fluff to Bennett Zmolek. He's a great leader. He does what he says he's going to do. He leads by example. I think guys want to follow him. He has so much presence." 1 1 Quote
