So if Chyzyk & Martinson were in St. Louis Saturday night, & the posting follows on Monday morning with a salary that only Herter with his level of experience would be qualified for, then all signs point toward Herter. It would no doubt be difficult for him to turn down double the salary at his alma mater. Plus more job security if Ferschweiler is a flight risk to the NHL in a year of two. I've posed the same question, but haven't gotten an answer here yet as to how that dynamic would work out between Herter & Simpson. UND could certainly use Herter, but it would seem kind of odd unless Simpson maybe took on a different role with the team. That's the only thing giving me pause as well. I do think with how long and successful Herter has been, he is likely just a very good all-around hockey coach and can probably fit anywhere, but it still feels a little bit odd. Also, maybe it's been brought up before, but who works with the goalies under this model? It seems kind of crazy for a program like UND to not have a goalie coach, but maybe they had to sacrifice that to use that spot for a GM. Can they still have a goalie coach that just isn't on the bench or is it 4 coaches max? Quote

I'm gonna say that with all the alleged input that Fersch has on Western's new rink, he's going to at least stick around until it's completed. Western may have to throw some more money at him to make it worth his while. Quote

SpudsSioux Posted April 14 Posted April 14 Yeah good point. It just seems like it’s been a long time since they didn’t have one on staff as a full-time or volunteer coach. 2010 maybe 1 Quote

90siouxfan Posted April 15 Posted April 15 To me it is a tough comparison, how would "haks goalies" evolved with out Karl, would we be talking about hanging 15.... It's not a recipe where sugar makes it sweet and salt does it's things. Teams are evolving humans and even the best estimates do not know the future life path of anyone. Hindsight does, but keep trying. For example, Moo U has had a QB guru, and a string of high level quarterbacks... did one create the other? which one? chicken or egg? Quote

But who knows. Perhaps TJ played a part in getting him here, seeing that he couldn't stop gushing about UND. So every time Homer makes a save do we have to yell “Whoo hoo!”? Hopefully every goal scored against him our opponents fans don’t yell “DOH!”. 1 Quote

Go back to the Parise/Lamoruex/Eidsness/Dell days. It seems like we had goalies that just kept setting records at UND. Now we can't recruit anyone and have to backfill with the portal, which has been mediocre. I hope Homer does well. but then I hope Heil can dominate and we can start recruiting our own guys for the most part. Quote

InHeavenThereIsNoBeer Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Menghini giving off Johannes vibes with how excited he it to play here, hopefully that translates to on-ice performance like it did for Hunter 2 Quote

ND_Texan Posted April 15 Posted April 15 if Fersch leaves Western for the NHL, Herter will be offered the HC job. Sucks for us. Quote
90siouxfan Posted April 15 Posted April 15 perhaps is just bicycle babble, but I thought this site had some info that Herter didn't care to be a HC. Quote
