I think this is the most relevant place with hockey being our most significant sport.

Prior to Chaves arrival hockey had won a natty in 2016. Volleyball and both basketballs were winning and competing for championships. Football was on the rise. What changed?

Enter Bill Chaves. UND athletics is now a laughing stock.

There are calls for new head coaches for almost every sport on this forum. Let's start with changing the person who is responsible for the overall decline in sports at UND. Bring in an associate athletic director from a Big Ten program or from a winning culture like SDSU to get us back on track.

Long past time for Chaves to be fired.

What is his background? I haven’t been impressed. Self admittedly, I’ve stopped following non hockey UND sports for the most part. But I’m hearing many of the programs are falling off quickly.

I’d take Josh Morton over Chaves any day.

Say Berry gets canned. Do all the players and committed prospects get to choose to play somewhere else?  Is there any way of hanging on to a few?

Everyone except the FB and Soccer coaches should be replaced.

But we must start with Chaves. We need new leadership in the athletic department.

We are a regional laughingstock in college athletics and I am sick of it.

A new coach would have to reach out to them and sell his vision for the program. Eric Schmidt had to do that when he took over FB and I think he kept most of the players he wanted.

The Softball team has had a better start to the season which has been good for them but the coach does not have a lot of positive things to say about Chaves and supposedly that is the general sentiment among coaches in the department. 
 

Regardless for anyone who follows UND sports it is obvious a change of leadership is needed for the department. If Armacost cares in the slightest about athletics he will bring in a new director.

Any players or commits can go elsewhere.

This is kind of why I think coaches actually coaching into the last year of their contract might become something we so more of. By no means will it be the norm, but possibly something we see more of.
The trick will be that if you make a move at the end of the season, it will need to be done quickly. Even if you make a move during their contract, the portal window opens up for players even if it is closed for the rest of the teams.

I was starting to think this same thing recently. I’ve been opposed to lame duck coaches but feels like it could be more of a normal thing. Still don’t like it though as hurts recruiting any future years.

Like we need to worry about short-term recruiting.  Newsflash: it was never very good and we lose more than we win pretty much every year
