Sitting out one year was a joke. Meanwhile coaches could peace out for a new job and suffer zero consequence. Its a little wild at the moment for sure but it’s better than the old system already. I do agree that the one year sit out was a joke, however, I think it should be in place after one transfer. 2 Quote
SiouxBoys Posted Sunday at 04:05 PM Posted Sunday at 04:05 PM Something had to be done about players committing to play for a coach, then that coach up and leaving a few months later. I've always thought that a player's NLI should be attached to the coach. Coach leaves/fired/enters brand new position in the alumni foundation because the athletic department can't afford the buyout, any player he signed can leave as well. Quote

I don’t disagree. It’s kinda like marriages. Divorce happens. But if you’re on your third wife it’s time to look in the mirror. 3 Quote

Its really nice to see the players get paid and coaches having to deal with it. It could use a little regulation and visibility as I would like to see how much the players are actually getting paid versus all of the rumors. Im sure one of the guys on here has all of the stats as to percentages of players that go into the portal versus end up in a better situation but Im sure the answer is a pretty low percentage. There are always the outliers that are bouncing around every year.. but for the vast majority, its gotta be somebody who is trying to go somewhere for the last year or two of eligibility or somebody who ended up in a situation that just didnt work out for them and they would like to play. Most of those NIL groups are 501c3 and do not need to release the financial awards (you do see players driving $90,000 Ram pick ups right after signing from the dealership major sponsor). So, there is a tremendous amount of pressure on the players AND coaches. Are coaches obligated to play the highest paid guy OR the one with the ability? Many times it is not the same and the player getting less money is more dedicated and works hard (blocks for the Star runner?). Also, all that cash in the hands of 18 to 23 year old young men. Really not too good. Many NIL groups have financial advisors. Does the NIL group dry up your alumni donations? Immediate or long term? I am not a real fan of NIL. As far as the transfer portal… staying and improving each year is worth something, right? Some are in their third college or fourth in 4 or 5 years. I never follow anyone to see if they actually play more…other than hearing the announcer say something on TV. Not sure how the NCAA will be handling all of this but for sure there should be no transfers until after the season is over… several teams are facing issues during the play offs. either way….GO UND! 1 Quote
fightingsioux4life Posted Sunday at 06:27 PM Posted Sunday at 06:27 PM NIL has a place in today's college athletics landscape, but it needs to be regulated. This Wild West approach won't end well. Transfer rules need to be tightened. We have moved too far in the other direction, but the old rules need to stay gone. Some healthy moderation would make a lot of these problems much easier to deal with. 2 Quote
GoodGood Posted Sunday at 07:46 PM Posted Sunday at 07:46 PM I’m confused on why NIL needs to be regulated. Players have been paid under the table forever. It now just has a name and is public 1 Quote

Some regulation is needed in everything to a certain agree, and NIL and the transfer portal is no different. 4 Quote

Recruit. Recruit. Recruit. Develop. Sustain. We can all agree it’s important, and that it was not nearly good enough the last couple years with an aging Bubba, and here’s to hoping Schmidty knocks it out of the park. Ya’ll do your part and support the program and the collective. 2 Quote

Arguably best/deepest position on the field the last few seasons. 2 Quote
