How would any of us know. One left town and didn't give another one any opportunity to prove otherwise.

BTW would have 2 more wins gotten this year's team a playoff bid?

Asking for the other 3 Dakota schools.

Can’t disagree, but would 2 more wins have Bubba still coaching?

Valid question to which the answer is yes.

No big rush to join our program yet

no big rush to leave our program yet

I am trying to be patient

I’ll keep pounding this drum. Retain, retain, retain. Schmidt is pitching a perfect game w/ 7 days left. Yes, they need to add a few key additions, but there was also probably 20+ “key” guys they need to return. They haven’t lost one yet.

No news is good news from here on out on losing players. I’m ok with figuring out LB situation during spring ball.

Need at least +1 on D-Line @ + 2 in secondary before start of next semester.

I would have thought that there would be activity from the players we didn’t necessarily want to retain. Would we be waiting for spring ball for that?

plus - I thought we would want more than an additional three players before semester - double that

Don’t disagree with either of that. If you could play GM, with the change to a 4-2-5, think you’d want +/- 8/10 going into second semester. More so emphasizing on my end how retaining your key players is the biggest key to success the next year.

Bubba calling criticism "outside noise" didn't help either.

This was completely unacceptable.

I love the portal and enjoy watching the NIL pearl clutching.  Its really nice to see the players get paid and coaches having to deal with it.  It could use a little regulation and visibility as I would like to see how much the players are actually getting paid versus all of the rumors.

Im sure one of the guys on here has all of the stats as to percentages of players that go into the portal versus end up in a better situation but Im sure the answer is a pretty low percentage.  There are always the outliers that are bouncing around every year.. but for the vast majority, its gotta be somebody who is trying to go somewhere for the last year or two of eligibility or somebody who ended up in a situation that just didnt work out for them and they would like to play.

The portal has level the playing field for the players. They used to be at a huge disadvantage. Sitting out one year was a joke. Meanwhile coaches could peace out for a new job and suffer zero consequence. Its a little wild at the moment for sure but it’s better than the old system already.

In 2023, about 45% of student-athletes who entered the transfer portal were able to move to a new school.

Most, if not all, of our guys that I am aware of that entered the portal found new teams.  There must be a bunch of guys that are at lower end of rosters across the country that are taking one last shot and don't catch on anywhere.
