I was thinking this was going to likely be the case as well. This has been discussed before but do we bring in a D at semester knowing this now?

Not sure who we would bring in. Laurila is obviously having a great season in Fargo but I don't think it is fair to bring in a kid who is in his draft year unless you project him to be a top 4 d-man when everyone is healthy and certainly not a healthy scratch.

I haven't looked at the rest of guys we have slated to come in but the only option I think would be if it is an over age kid who is slotted to be 3rd pair when he gets to GF.

Assuming Laurila accelerated his education and has graduated high school he’d be the only current recruit we could bring in. (We only have him and Lindberg committed for defensemen) I find it unlikely for a lot of the reasons you suggest.

The thing about St. Cloud this year is that I’m not so sure they need a world-stopper in net because they play such good team defense.

If they continue only scoring 2.47 goals a game, yes they will need his .938 save %. They’ve won 6 games by 1 goal this year. Drop that save % to .900 and they aren’t 8th in the pairwise, probably closer to us.

True but if we had a defense playing as well as theirs I can assure you our overall save percentage would be higher too because less quality shots would be getting through. They are already playing stingy defense the way a tourney team would play (see Denver’s 2024 NCAA scores). Closing out 1-goal games takes everyone on the ice.

Semptimphelter was pulled in the first period of a game for the first time ever in his career this season. Is that because he got worse as a goalie? No, it’s because he’s been absolutely hung out to dry multiple times since we haven’t figured out how to properly protect the house yet. And I say “yet” with great hope that we somehow get that together haha.

I personally don’t think he should come in. No point in burning a year….but i believe he was draft eligible last year, 9/15 cutoff

No I certainly agree not bringing in Laurila. I was thinking maybe flipping an older recruit but I kind of figured with Monty moving back and forth that we wouldn't bring one in.

Zmolek missed a full season at Purple Cow. If he reinjured whatever that was ...

If you bring in a mid-year player why not a forward and move Monty to D full time.

If you're going to bring in a D, bring in someone from the Canadian Major Junior leagues.

The ban on major junior players is/was discriminatory.  The fact that the NCAA has said they will agree to stop discriminating August 1 of next year doesn't change the discriminatory nature of the policy.  You don't get to just say, "Ok, yeah we have been discriminating, and we'll agree to stop August 1 of next year."

Let the NCAA try to stop us, walk in and get the injunction when they do, problem solved (and flood gates opened?)

Honestly, I'm surprised no one has tried this thus far.

Wouldn't it be fun to win a dispute with the NCAA, for once? :p

Only for lawyers; it's a gut ache for everyone else.

Or a goalie that can play F or D. We love our portal goalies!

I'm not comparing our defense to theirs, I'm just saying they wouldn't be in the position they are with a goalie not saving 93.8% of their shots.  I guess I don't have any data on the quality of the shots they're allowing vs ours but that would be cool to see.

honestly, if we continue to miss the net on just about every shot...does it really matter whos in net?

What are you talking about? I didn't once refer to UND in relation to this, I'm TRYING to have a conversation about SCSU's analytics.  In fact, I specifically said I'm not comparing our team to SCSU. I'm simply commenting on how instrumental their goaltender has been to their national ranking.

Boy, it's exhausting trying to get through a conversation about hockey analytics for a completely different team only to be brought back to the fact that we've started the season poorly. You're not breaking any news there.

I’m gonna need you to slow down, egghead.

Is there a comparable year that we had so many injuries for an extended time? If so, how did that year go?
I just don’t remember the injuries being this bad for this long.

11-12? Believe they had 17 skaters for most of the stretch run including winning the final five. Beat in the regional final at the X by the gophers
