shep Posted yesterday at 05:30 AM Share Posted yesterday at 05:30 AM Men against boys tonight, though just after the goal to cut it 3-2 the goalie gave up a softie, so there’s hope

brianvf Posted yesterday at 05:58 AM Share Posted yesterday at 05:58 AM This team needs to play some desperate hockey tomorrow. A split would sure be a huge help later on down the road. Tough task for sure with how good DU is and how depleted our lineup looks right now. I'm just assuming that UND got 2-3 more injuries tonight? brianvf Posted yesterday at 06:05 AM Share Posted yesterday at 06:05 AM @Oxbow6, you'll get a kick out of this...appears that CHN is now showing xG in their box scores. First time I've noticed that. And it's probably broken, because xG barely gave DU the win tonight...3.6 to 3.3. https://www.collegehockeynews.com/box/final/20241115/den/ndk/

And that superiority extends to their coaching staff, it couldn't be any more obvious than after tonight. A team is a reflection of its coach. UND has plenty of talented players, there's no reason why they can't at least be competitive with DU. But they continue to make bonehead plays, are undisciplined when it comes to penalties, cannot string together 60 minutes & the element of teamwork seems to be an alien concept for them. All this even after 6 weeks, which smacks more of a coaching/managing/motivating issue than a personnel one. 11 games into the season & UND played no better tonight than in their embarrassing loss to Augustana. Even with a full lineup then, UND looked lost. That game was an omen of what to expect this season. UND can overpower weaker teams with nice individual plays, but are like a ship without a rudder when they face talented, disciplined teams like DU; because playing like a bunch of individuals will always lose out to a well-structured team.

SIOUXELEVENS Posted yesterday at 12:54 PM Share Posted yesterday at 12:54 PM After rewatching the game we looked very slow and not reacting well to DU pressure. No time or space at all. DU being very young they play like a veteran team. We were skating in quicksand and looked slow especially on the power play.

It's gone from expecting to bring it against Denver at home to hoping we won't be embarrassed. Berry needs to get things together.

We allowed an even strength cross ice pass down through the slot that they one-timed. Goalie had to go post to post and still got a good piece of it but he was badly hung out to dry. That’s on the D and forwards in our zone blowing coverage and having poor positioning.

Is that the play where the DU player crosschecked our guy to the ice right to Helterskelter's left, possibly distracting him?

Wilbur Posted yesterday at 03:12 PM Author Share Posted yesterday at 03:12 PM So watched the goals that TJ gave up last night. Not a lot he can do on the first three. First one is a first rounder from below the hash marks, second one went off our guy on a screen, third one our d coverage left him out to dry, and the fourth one would've been a great save to his left that he will say he wants back but we left a guy wide open off the wall in d zone coverage. I'm all about getting Hobie in too, but those weren't soft goals. Our d zone was awful, and those are goals on him too.
Kevin G Posted yesterday at 03:41 PM Share Posted yesterday at 03:41 PM I'd like to see Hobie in net tonight. The experience--whether good or bad--should be helpful long term.

UND is no more a functional, cohesive team now than when they played Augustana. It almost seems like they regressed last night. And zero improvement from last year's biggest weakness, which was dealing with a heavy forecheck. A bunch of individuals trying to hit home runs with breakaways instead of focusing on passing, puck possession, sound positional play, etc. DU lost a lot of talent from last year & someone said they're the second- or third-youngest team in the country. Yet their young players have zero problems playing like a team & with discipline. It's clear what the issue is.
90siouxfan Posted yesterday at 03:58 PM Share Posted yesterday at 03:58 PM I had thought about why Carle is better than Berry. The mindset of Carle's players installs a lot of trust in thier teammates, which helps thier creativity. Berry seems to install a mindset of being prepared for your teammates to make mistakes and be prepared/in place to cover. Fine line in my humble opinion and I think I drove by a Holiday Inn Express next to the Dakota Dome yesterday, so probably legit analisis.

ksl_sioux4ever Posted yesterday at 04:19 PM Share Posted yesterday at 04:19 PM I'm still try to figure out why 8 and 27 were split. They are the only players on the team to play with chemistry it seems. I've given up trying to figure out the coaching decisions.
