Bleedn Green Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago To quote a great football coach (Nick Saban). "Programs that don't make the post-season have NO right to complain because they did NOT take care of their own business". I have no problem with the pairwise, it is about the most fair way of determining the tournament field you can get. This team has a lot of young talent. My worries are not about the post season, my worries are we able to keep the young talent here. In today's world I see several of our players looking for better opportunities elsewhere and it would not surprise me to see several high end players bolt at the end of the season. Years ago our third and fourth line players would be first line players in other programs, just not the case now days. North Dakota and this staff have a bad history of keeping the bottom end talent around out of loyalty, I am sorry but we cannot build our team around guys like Kunz, Schmaltz and Jammer, all great guys BUT! So many of us in NoDak nation are tired of this never-ending repeating saga. This program is due for a shake up! 1 1 Quote

SiouxFan100 Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Yes - I just want the rankings to reflect reality. I understand there is no magic formula. I also don’t understand all the math that goes into the pairwise. At a previous job we were tasked to come up with a purely 100% metric that included no subjective variable for a bonus plan. We never did come up with one that all thought was fair because of various attitude, work ethic, unique types of projects and customers. Am sure others figured it out but we always ending up with some subjective. Quote

A team at the beginning of the year can be very different than at the end. Yes, it's absolutely fair and is the best way. The beginning of the season is a part of the season. If we start excluding early season scores, then what's the point of playing a full season? Should we just do exhibition games through Mid-January and then start the real games from there? Should we cherry pick who's playing well in Feb and ignore who played better through the previous 4 months? You're essentially asking if politics should be infused to determine playoff spots.... Pariwise adds to the importance and intensity of non-con games whether early or late, because everyone is aware of the implications. Every team deals with adversity throughout the season, and the ones who are able to still win more consistently than others through it all are rewarded with playoff spots. The only argument I can see for committee votes and rankings is to stir up the drama on TV to get more people talking about hockey and creating more publicity. But if that's what has to be done to get more people interested than I dont want to be interested. 2 3 Quote
Dustin Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Are there enough pairwise improving games left to even crack an at-large? Denver (2 games) and W. Michigan (2 games) plus whoever we face in the NCHC tournament. 1 Quote

SiouxFan100 Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Plain to see that folks are happy with the pairwise. I was just generating discussion to get a feel. Thanks personally I feel the pairwise is the best of all options though a team like Notre dame probably wouldn’t have made the tournament in football this year with the early season bad loss. I understand that many think they shouldn’t have but I would respectfully disagree. I appreciate all the responses - thanks again 2 Quote

Popular Post Oxbow6 Posted 17 hours ago Popular Post Posted 17 hours ago If the Pairwise is a measure of UND making the NCAAs this program is lost. UND at a minimum should be a top 10 team annually. The Pairwise should only be relevant for UND from a seeding standpoint. Not a number that's chased to get into the NCAA tournament. 2 3 Quote

SIOUXELEVENS Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago We’re fine we tied and won one game , everything’s great. Berry is probably signing his extension. #culture #attheendoftheday 1 Quote

Tall order for this squad. 1 Quote

Which would equate to winning all 6 at home with CC, Duluth, and Omaha, and splitting at Western and Denver. Not out of the question, but we've seen how they have huge lapses within games, so not having any lapses at home against those teams seems improbable. Quote

That would put them at #13 in the PWR, without other teams having huge upsets around them. I'd love to see this team go on that type of run to finish the season, but I'm just not sure it's possible for them, like you said. We'll see...I'd love to be surprised. 1 Quote

yepdude Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Go 10-0 and they will be #11. Now just stop giving up 2 goal leads in the third... Cornell - bad year Bemidji - they had their championship late November. RMU - Bad year Bad records vs. bad teams; there is a way to dig out but it'll need to be an epic run Quote
90siouxfan Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago When ya'll are plugging results into the CHN pairwise comparison program, do you just put results for UND in or is every game across the ncaa needed? Quote

Just UND. If you did everyone, you'd get the best picture to how they would finish, but just doing UND is pretty close to what it will be. Quote
