sioux rube Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 Sheyenne finally breaks the ice with 21 seconds to go in the third. 1-0 Quote
RhettRingers Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 Not a bad PxP guy WDAY has. A lot easier to listen to the Dom. Quote
SiouxFan100 Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 From my untrained eye Davies looks better than Legacy - by more than a little Quote
siouxweet Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 "The defending runner ups" haven't heard that reference to a 2nd place finisher before. Quote
SiouxFan100 Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 I thought there would be more scoring Quote
Wilbur Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 Afternoon into the evening session were both battles. A puck bounces the other way and its Minot and Legacy in the semifinals. Quote
sioux rube Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 Century and South tied at 1 after 1. A bit surprising Quote

Wilbur Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 Was at the Ralph today and three of the four games were pretty good contests. Hats off to Legacy, Minot and Century for battling it out for the West Region. Three one goal games where a bounce could of went the other way and you'd have a different outcome. Things kind of setting up again for Red River-South part IV, but I guess you never know with the goaltenders from Sheyenne and Davies. Quote

Aside from my Jays they were 3 entertaining games with Century surprising me. Those Vig boys are pretty good Quote
UND1983 Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 The attendance...oof. Hopefully it picks up quite a bit today Quote

Wilbur Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 I think the attendance won't ever be what it once was. I think it goes to show that the Pepsi rink in Minot could host the tournament. Quote

The use of basically smooth jazz elevator Musak played at times made it feel quite clinic like. This tournament should basically never be in the Ralph. It's not some special once in a lifetime deal for these kids to "play on the UND" ice. At this stage they've all played here, been involved with camps and tournaments here. It's not special, it's not worth the vast emptyness and massively inflated costs to parents, spectators and NDHSAA. Rotate the thing between Minot and Fargo. 4 Quote
gfhockey Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 We should just move all state tourneys to Fargo 1 Quote
UND1983 Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 Hockey seems to be dying in ND as a spectator sport. Attendance is laughable at the state tournament compared to the basketballs. Quote
sioux rube Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 Jays up 4-1 over Minot after 2. Shots 35-13 Minot. Walz playing well in the net once again Quote
Wilbur Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 I'm anxious to see attendance tonight, but if it's under 3,000 then I think the conversation needs to be had about not using REA. Quote

If you want western North Dakotans to take to the streets with torches and pitchforks, that would do it. Grand Forks should get the original blueprints of the Old REA and build an arena based on them, just with more comfortable seating and state-of-the-art technology. This would be an almost perfect home for the State Hockey Tournament. It would also provide another ice sheet for teams looking for ice time, which seems to always be scarce. I would definitely chip in some money to make it happen. Quote
Frozen4sioux Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 Love the way GFRR plays away from the puck. Quote
