What would make him a good coach for UND? Other than he is a football god from North Dakota due to his success as a player, he hasn’t shown (at least that I’m not aware of) any type of credentials as a coach. If they hired him, I’m afraid it would be like when the Gophers hired Lindsey Whalen.

This is 100% true but we shouldn’t expect an immediate national championship. We need to realize that the new coach is building the foundation  for continued success in the following years.

The portal has closed and all recruits have stayed committed, so it should be business as usual until a coach is named. If what we are hearing is only a few coaches applied, then why wait? but if Chaves has a few other tricks up his sleeve for coaches that are still coaching in bowl games, take your time.

I absolutely agree. It’s called bias. I would love to have a buddy / acquaintance get the job, but I also realize that such biases got us Bubba in 2013/14 as well. I think we need to make this decision separate from such biases. Do not hire someone because of acquaintance and bias, but because they’re the best candidate.

I wasn't implying we need an immediate impact. But we cannot have another debacle like we have with WBB.

In college football, turnarounds can occur in 1-2 years when you get the hire correct. Also, UND has a foundation per Bubba, remember? Plus the excellent new facilities. I would hope to see UND ascend quickly in 1-2 years or else UND got the wrong guy.

I believe both of them were coaches before getting hired at the college level. But those two are much bigger names than Jimmy and bring a much higher recognition to a program.

If your happy with the foundation that bubba has laid, so be it but I’m not. It’s been a mediocre foundation that’s been okay with winning a few games and getting to the tournament only to lose. I want to see MVFC championships and NCAA tournament wins.

The cupboard isn't totally bare, especially on offense. What needs to change the most is a talent upgrade on defense via the portal and a new attitude towards achievement and heightened expectations and standards.

Yup, bias gets/got the university where it’s at with most athletic programs here at UND. Look at the direction of the hockey program.
