Why do you think deboer’s success was his only? All of his staff had help in making that success happen. One could say that Deboer isn’t having success at Alabama because he doesn’t have some of the same people there that helped him before. 
SDSU was a complete mess before schmidt got there so im not surprised that he didn’t have immediate success but i am willing to bet that he will be a hot commodity as a HC soon if UND doesn’t hire him. No matter who UND hires, we won’t see immediate success as it will take the HC a full season with players that aren’t his.

thought we were comparing resumes in late 2024 and seeing who would be the best candidate.  I pointed out Roehls lack of experience and of course now it’s dismissed cause he “won at NDSU”

Is Schmidt clearly a better candidate than Roehl, and if so why?

How could he not be based on resume and experience level?  Roehl has coached one year at a place not called NDSU.  Schmidt has DC and ST coordinator experience at the FBS and P5 level.  And won.  
Roehl has coached RB for 1 year.  
 

at this point in time it really isn’t an argument on paper.

Trust me if I had heard of a better candidate I would be all for him.  But we have not.  Roehl didn’t apply.  Caruso didn’t apply.  Saban didn’t apply.  I  choosing to back reality only.

C’mon man, Schmidt could do well at UND, but let’s not act like he walks on water.

His defenses choked away two playoff games in 2016 at home vs a CAA team and on the road in 2019 versus a Southland Conference team! Can’t blame either to injuries …

And 2024 San Diego State roster was decimated by injuries also, was it? 
 

There are pros and cons, always are. Schmidt had a good run with DeBoer at Fresno and Washington, but those teams won cause of their offense, not their defense. 
 

Im weary on Schmidt’s ability to knockoff NDSU and SDSU, I think we may see more “Bubba Ball” with Schmidt as head coach but no one knows for sure.
