cberkas
This could push UNLV to add a NCAA D1 hockey team. Also could this move the UND - Minnesota game to the T-Mobile Arena?

siouxforcefans
This was so anti-climatic. The press release could've just been "Yep, we're done pretending it's not happening."

I'm sure they'll do another big, fancy reveal that NO ONE will be surprised about, at some point in time haha.
siouxfan512
Vegas truly needs to have the cheesiest, most gawdy area possible. You should basically feel like there is a hockey game being played on a casino floor. This is the only place that could consider doing something like this and make it work. Lights everywhere, slots on the concourse, jackpot noises when goal are scored. It would certainly be an experience.

SWSiouxMN
This isn't a surprise. Also not shocked its only going to be one either. So my two questions are the following: 1) Where will Vegas be put division wise in the west? I assume in the Pacific division but stranger things have happened. 2) How soon does NHL go to 32 and who? If Seattle had their ducks in a row they would no doubt have been the 2nd expansion team (Nanne on KFAN yesterday reiterated the NHL's desperation to get into Seattle), but how long can the NHL wait on them before looking at other markets. Portland? KC? Houston? I wouldn't think it would be a long wait between 31 and 32.

But that doesn't mean that a new expansion team will be in the Central Division footprint. If Quebec City gets a team back, they could send the Red Wings back to the West and even things out by puting them in the Central. Will be interesting to see when team #32 is added to the NHL. Will probably be sooner than we think.

Portland? KC? Houston? I wouldn't think it would be a long wait between 31 and 32. Cleveland' Cavs owner Dan Gilbert said he wanted aN NHL team last night in Cleveland, when the Lake Erie Monsters won the AHL title before nearly 20k in Cleveland. Gilbert also wants an MLS team in Detroit and is worth billions because he owns a big part of Quicken Loans and Rocket Mortgages. Cleveland would be the poorest city with all four major leagues. Gilbert can maybe make it happen, but Milwaukee or Indianapolis would much preferred by the NHL. Quebec City is waiting for the Canadien dollar to go higher. Right now, an expansion team would cost like $700 m Canadian vs $500 mill US. They may be waiting on Carolina or Florida to throw in the towel. Seattle can't even agree on the location of an arena, and it would need an NBA team before the city will chip in on arena costs. If someone builds in suburban Seattle, then it can happen soon. It is thought that the NHL wants 36 teams sometime next decade. Portland, Houston, Austin, a second Toronto team are other cities that get mentioned. I could see Mike Ilitch finding a way to keep Dan Gilbert from owning a MLS team in Detroit. I don't see Portland getting an NHL team before Seattle. They don't even sell the upper level at the Moda Center for Winterhawks games.

Plenty to do on that front first before further expansion. Perhaps being in those markets for television reasons is why nothing's been done? The Sicatoka
The west needs two teams to make a 16/16 balance. That's why Vegas. But what's next? SEA? Another CA franchise? I just think now with ASU hockey PHX survives, but moves to a more sensible arena - closer to the snowbirds in Mesa in the SE PHX metro. My guess is CAR moves (to Quebec City or a second Toronto franchise) before FLA.

This would be a wise move as I am certainly there are plenty of northerners that would love to see their hometown team play against the Coyotes in the winter. Those are two entirely different levels of hockey; most people in the United States don't know or understand CHL hockey.
