Cratter Posted June 1, 2023 Posted June 1, 2023 Wonder why they haven't proposed using this tax for a new library I thought they badly wanted? Quote

I'd be curious what the "same stuff" in town is that is comparable? Very shortly there will be zero completive size pools in town. While the Alerus and HPC are technically giant turf facility, neither of them are it is not set up in a way to host the events they are looking at and both have smaller turf areas than what is being proposed. There also isn't gym in town the size of what is being looked at either. Quote

They want to extend the Alerus Center tax another 30 years. Which of course would essentially buy another Alerus Center. But this one seems very boring. Just more of the same stuff from around town just under one roof. Like I could think of 80 million better things to build than more volleyball courts and a swimming pool. I say this tongue in cheek, but I would love to see even just a portion of the 80 million things, LIST. Quote
nodak651 Posted June 1, 2023 Posted June 1, 2023 If the new und softball field is going to have some sort of partnership with the city at the same time they are looking at this project, I think someone should really look to see if it could be made compatible with a seasonal bubble. Quote

As I'm sure you're aware the ND legislature has CLAMPED DOWN on local library's because they are the main purveyors of pornography and FILTH in our humble state! I'm QUITE sure there are no OTHER sources of porn and filth anywhere else BUT local libraries so let's consider this problem SOLVED and MOVE ON! NO NEW LIBRARY'S - EVER!! BURN BOOKS because the last time a kid read a book was... PS - okay WAIT - there's something called the internet? some WORLD WIDE WEB? I'm sure the legislature will be all over that in 2 years...give me a break Quote

They tried something a while back and the vote was a resounding no. They actually listened to the people and used other funds to do renovations. Haven't seen the newly finished kids area yet, but they have done a pretty good job with their remodel/repurpose. Quote

gfNDfan Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 Bunch of drunk Shriners in town this weekend - they're doing a parade downtown from EGF down Demers to the Masonic Lodge at 11am. More relevant this topic than a library arguement - HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND! Quote
Kab Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 Grand forks needs to keep developing, find ways to finance things drive through Fargo on 29 and 94 and it’s miles of business, motels, restaurants and health care I guess GF is North Dakota conservative and Fargo takes a chance West Fargo is getting between 400 and 600 new students per year, next year is estimated at about 525 is it leadership ? By the time GF gets a new 1 29 on/off ramp Fargo will have 6 new ones Quote

What could a person spend $150 million* on? -build a outdoor ampitheater - build a winter tubbing, ski hill with lift and lodge -build a Cabelas that rents boats, atvs, snowmobiles - build Lake Grand Forks (this isn't that uncommon) - build a pavement race track (5,000 at the dirt track last night) - build a drag strip (Brainerds is on national tv) - build a motocross track - build a science center - build any museum - build a indoor skatepark (zero in north dakota) - build a indoor or outdoor paintball arena - build a generic top golf - build an amusement park - build that aquarium Bo wanted - build Space Needle Grand Forks - build fifteen $10 million dollar projects in Grand Forks! You could likely build multiple ones on the list for the money and any all of them would produce a greater economic impact than pickleball nets and a big gym. I'm surprised it didn't include another indoor ice sheet! *this is the spendable amount the tax produces. Sorry couldn't find a good place for this topic. "Things to do" seemed appropriate. Quote

Then a group came along and said that's nonsense. It's perfectly fine to swim in it. Had one last cig, ran the long obstacle course, then beat tired with heavy wet shoes swam across the Red in front of Blue Moose! 1 Quote

The Sicatoka Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 Folks must not get out much. I’d guess 45 of 50 states wish they had a city growing like Grand Forks. But because it’s too close to even faster growers Fargo and Bismarck it doesn’t get its due. 2 Quote
