My reply was also going to be....thr only team that doesn't hate their OC is the one who wins the Championship. I do remember NDSU complaining about theirs at different times in the past few years and they won titles with those OC's, and they were still complaining. If you can run the ball down their throats too, that sure makes life easier as the OC. I remember an SU playoff game with the game on the line and they were either 3rd or 4th and goal from the 5 with less than a minute to play, QB in shotgun.....and I think half the stadium new they were going to run the QB draw....and they did.....and of course he runs it in for a TD and won the game. Send Fruechte to every OC seminar available or give him some funny mushrooms to gain some imagination. So now its a quadruple reverse? Man these fish stories just keep getting bigger lol. I do agree there was some angst with Danny sometimes though. If I recall there was a game at USD where we're moving it on the ground and then he gave up on that. I think Danny would have had a much better call on 4th and 1 against SU that got blown up. That one huge 4th down play...I think it was against Cap Poly was a thing of beauty. Danny's offense definitely had to overcome having a subpar defense. 5 Quote
wheelsup Posted December 24, 2025 Posted December 24, 2025 Danny called a couple too many trick plays for my liking.. but he was more entertaining and consistent than fruechte and my guess a better QB developer. As I recall.. the major complaints were that Tommy didn’t run as much as he should and didn’t have a great deep ball. Now we have a QB that runs too much and is inaccurate. danny was handicapped by having to out score a consistently terrible defense. It would be interesting to see if a combination of Schmittys defense and Danny’s offense would work.. always fun to dream. 1 Quote

I blame him more for poor recruiting than for calling trick plays. No excuse for how our wr room has looked for over a decade. 2 Quote

Like not even in the same ballpark on how he was used this year. 1 Quote

IMO staying one more year and building up his body would make him more money in the portal and get him a better look at the pros. Hope he succeeds but I don’t think he set himself up properly here. 2 3 Quote

These kids are getting bad advice and going for a few bucks but sacrificing their future in football. No chance at all-American status, no chance at all-conference, no chance at professional football. Sticking with UND football and getting opportunities and development is usually the better option. Happy to see that Lance Rucker understood this … Quote

Yeah he screwed up, but in this day and age, one or two kids will unfortunately do this to themselves every year until regulations are put into place. Would always welcome SS back to UND if his mind cleared but I’m sure that ship has sailed … Quote

Should have stayed at UND one more year, but .........kids gotta dream I guess. Quote
