siouxforcefans Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 Wow - I didn't realize Texas had caught Houston! Guess I wasn't paying enough attention to the West standings, just looking at who was right in front of the Twins for the WC before the games last night. Quote
The Sicatoka Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 And that is the nut of Minnesota's problem: As long as NYY and TOR are in a battle, and TEX and HOU are also, those teams are fully engaged and will be very difficult to catch because they are thinking "win division" not "wildcard". They're running toward something, not away from MIN. So there's four of five playoff spots and the fifth is KC. Quote

Both Minnesota and Houston are pretty young teams and don't have a lot of players with playoff or pennant race experience. Houston is 3-7 in their last 10 games. They lost their lead against Texas and don't have much of a lead over Minnesota. They may have hit the wall for the season. Minnesota and Texas have both picked up 3 full games on Houston over the past 10, so they weren't difficult for Texas to catch. If Houston continues at that rate during the next 10 games they will probably be out of it. Houston still has 5 games left against Texas, so they probably have a more difficult schedule left than Minnesota. Quote
siouxforcefans Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 12 innings. Sheesh. Twins needed that one. Quote
UNDBIZ Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 12 innings. Sheesh. Twins needed that one.Jepsen's first blown save, giving up 2 in the ninth. And Mr. $23 Million struck out after facing a 3-0 count with runners in scoring position in the 11th. Molitor may have been a bit overzealous with late inning substitutions as well. Ended up with Shane Robinson hitting in place of Plouffe (after pinch running for him earlier) in a clutch situation (and Robinson got thrown out at home in the pinch runner situation anyway, guy may be small, but he's also slow). siouxforcefans Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 when you chase the other teams starting pitcher in the first inning, you expect good things. When you own pitcher gets chased in the 2nd (and the reliever promptly gives up the grand slam), expectations go into the tank... 1 Quote
sioux rube Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Huge series obviously with the Indians starting tomorrow at Target. Really could use a sweep to have a chance at the last wild card. I will be there tomorrow hoping for a win but if not the beer will still be cold. 1 Quote
SWSiouxMN Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 Just when I thought the twins were dead... they somehow revive their hopes. Chance to pull within a game with a win tonight. Up 4-0 on the tribe. Quote
jodcon Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 Tied in the loss column too, can this really happen? Quote
Vegas_Sioux Posted September 24, 2015 Posted September 24, 2015 Ok so the home plate ump squeezes Perkins then tosses him after the game well the crew chief is restraining him. Such a good show by the ump. Quote

Such a good show by the ump. And Perkins should just keep his mouth shut. Guy gives up a 2 run bomb and blames the ump. Then he gets the third out and the Twins win but he still has to bitch. Perkins needs to be shopped this off season. Edited September 24, 2015 by sioux rube Quote

Perkins needs to be shopped this off season. In June, Hunter showed up the ump and then proceeds to take his jersey off and throw it and it got called "leadership" and showing fire. That is a helluva lot worse than what Perkins did.And you can't be serious on trading him. Why would you get rid of the best/most consistent relief pitcher on the staff who's also happens to be under an incredibly reasonable contract for the next 3 years? Interesting note by Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press:Perkins has a 6.75 ERA in 7 outings w/ Dan Bellino behind the plate. That's his 2nd-highest for any of 34 plate umps to work 5 + outings. Quote

And of course what Hunter did was over the top. He went way to far with his act. So the ump is why Perkins struggles when he is behind the plate? I will buy a little of that but It's more coincidence than anything. Edited September 24, 2015 by sioux rube Quote
sioux rube Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 Last night very well could be the dagger. Thanks Perkins. Quote
siouxforcefans Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Then they win Saturday and Sunday to keep it interesting! Quote
SWSiouxMN Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 If the Twins are to have any shot at this, they need to go 5-2 the rest of the way. Quote
siouxforcefans Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 If the Twins are to have any shot at this, they need to go 5-2 the rest of the way.So, with last night's win, is it now 4-2? If so, that starts to seem doable...I'm sure it's all a setup to dramatically rip our guts out by dropping a game in extra innings, but it's still pretty cool to have this team in contention about to enter October. Mariners and A's need to give a little help this week. Quote
SWSiouxMN Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 I am interested to see what they are going to do with the rotation next year. Guessing Pelf will be moving on. Santana, Hughes, and Gibby are locks to me, so there are two openings with these options1) Nolasco2) Duffey3) May (if they want him back as a starter)4) Berrios5) Millone Quote
UNDBIZ Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 If they could trade away Hughes and Nolasco for literally anything, I'd be OK with it. Quote
ericpnelson Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Perkins got it together last night. That was nice to see. Quote
