I guess people using the excuse that their team couldn't win because all of the teams had the same number of scholarships (level playing field) has always been a strange argument that I wouldn't personally make. They were no longer able to stack the depth needed by offering scholarships. Thus some top recruits chose other schools. The other schools capitalized on this and NDSU couldn't overcome it.
