Popular Post The Sicatoka
Geez, no one has started this yet; so, welcome to the 2014 season thread. As Coach Schweigert would say, "Day by day." Here's the perfect background for that motto because you don't get to the finished product all at once. You must work to a plan. You must stick with the plan. It won't be easy. It won't be quick. Some days it won't even look like you're getting anywhere. But do the work and you'll end up with something great and be where you want to be and have your goal and dream. But first you must do the work ... Day by day.

Matt
I make a motion we set a target date of the beginning of fall camp 2015 when we can get past Muss' "brick by brick" and now the "day by day" and move into "the time is now". BobIwabuchiFan
I'm sorry to rain on anyone's parade, but the Sioux will not be back to form by next year...It will take at least 2-3 years of Bubba recruits to set the team straight and that's hoping no one jumps ship on the coach and starts a Fire Bubba thread in about 6 weeks. Got to tone down the expectations and give the team time to build. We will most likely get throttled by NDSU in 2015 and hope to be very decent in 2017 - that's my goals for the team and I think its more realistic than most. Set your goals a bit higher, quit comparing to the AC. Nothing we can do about the Ag School. They are good and I wouldn't wait around for them to stumble so I would expect Bubba and his staff to approach this program with a sense of urgency and high expectations. Don't worry about next year until next year and certainly not 2017 or we likely won't be any good until 2017 or later. Worry about Saturday and the preparation needed and the recruiting work that needs to get done this week.

I can't wait until game 12 is done and we can see if this team is headed in the right direction. Not expecting any miracles or be #1 in defense but just to see major improvements would be great. MafiaMan
I make a motion we set a target date of the beginning of fall camp 2015 when we can get past Muss' "brick by brick" and now the "day by day" and move into "the time is now". I'll second that motion, especially since Minnesota has used the "brick by brick" schtick for a a couple of seasons now. And their stadium actually has plenty of bricks in it, so it makes sense. I'm sorry, but scr*w that conservative expectation bullsh*t. I understand this season is about rebuilding and implementing a new culture, but time and time again college football programs rise up from the ashes and perform well after one season. So you're telling me, not even 2 games into 2014, that UND football will be irrelevant in 2015 and possibly 2016 too? That's absolute bullsh*t. I expect consistent improvement because any other DI institution looking for championships would expect the same thing. I believe this season will constitute a losing record (4 to 5 wins), but why not improve a to 6-5 or 7-4 in 2015?? This lackadaisical approach that some "supporters" have is bullsh*t. You may call it "realistic" but I call it d*mn lazy! At the rate some have in mind, Mussman would be still be HC, NDSU would continue winning EVERY worthy recruiting battle, and the Alerus would be decreasing in attendance weekly. It's time for UND to become a top FCS football program. This season it won't happen, but with plausible improvement each season, this team could be having a winning season by next season. And even if they don't, why are you throwing out whole seasons just assuming they're already "lost" seasons? That's ridiculous. End of rant. Happy Potato Bowl Week and Go UND!
shep
I don't think all future seasons need to be "lost" but Bubba has a few of his recruits on the team now, will bring in more next year and so on thereafter, but it won't really be his players for four years. Thus, while we can hope for a better season each year, I am skeptical that things turn as soon as next season and we end up with a winning record. homer
The players and coaches expect to win now. I see nothing wrong with fans having that same expectation. No one comes here to be average.

No one comes here to be average. "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't -- you're probably right." --Henry Ford Having positive expectations goes a long way towards producing and winning football games. This was a major issue with Mussman; he never exuded a trace of confidence.

The Sicatoka
You know what we need? (I know you're reading this Hajdu. ) We need a live (every 15 minutes) camera in the old Memorial press box so we could watch practice and construction.
