bale31
I think he should get 2 games for coming off the bench to join the scrum. I don't know how the refs didn't see him come from the bench and not give him a game DQ let alone a penalty. Reading a bit more, I think that's what the suspension is for. Leaving the bench. Upper Deck
BSU's two shots at the NCAAs: - win WCHA tournament - my scenario (above) If BSU has a clue they'll play this weekend like it is their last. "Do you believe in miracles . . ." BSU just got swept by LSSU. I'm a BSU optimist, but unless UMD's bus breaks down on the way to the X, I don't see it happening. Bitzer has been good in net, but BSU struggles to score goals (except for opening nights in October) and I don't think they can keep up with UMD's top lines. Plan B.

Siouxman
This weekend could be it for the Gophers. If they don't win these two games, their only hope is to win the B1G tournament. UMD and MSU are the only teams in the top 16 pairwise that MN plays the rest of the year. And if OSU, MSU, Penn St., and WI struggle it will only get worse for MN from here on out.Michigan is literally in the same boat. They are ahead of MN in the PWR (tied for 16, but placed 17 with the tie-breaker) and they have no games remaining with teams ranked above them in the PWR.Obviously much remains of the season and teams can move up and down, but both of these teams have a tough road ahead. They literally cannot afford to stumble.
MafiaMan
Reading a bit more, I think that's what the suspension is for. Leaving the bench. Which is amazing given all of the b*tching over on GPL about cheap Wisconsin...and some 5th liner from Minnesota leaves the bench and joins the fray and no one notices. Priceless! MafiaMan
Point is though....you're crazy if you think those voters are watching all the teams theyre voting for and if they are it's only 2-3 games. It's just not possible. The more likely scenario, they're reading box scores, looking at pairwise/krach/rpi and making their best judgement. MSU has 4 losses on the year. 3 of them to teams ranked in the top 8. They are scoring almost 4 goals a game. Had a stretch of over 400 minutes if not trailing (8+ games) and play solid defense (only giving up 21 shots per game). With all of that combined, voting for them seen or unseen is a pretty valid judgement. It's hard to argue that the WCHA is a "poor" conference given the success of Mankato and Ferris last season. Both of those teams played quite well in the NCAA tournament. That does as much for the conference reputation as the respective records of Michigan Tech (slipping a bit lately) and Mankato this season. MafiaMan
MN's saving grace is that they should have every opportunity to win their conference tournament. There's something about JLA that brings out the best in Michigan and Michigan State. Watch out for Penn State as well. This isn't the Minnesota slam-dunk I thought it was earlier this season. Plenty of hockey left, but Minnesota has their work cut out for them.

Godsmack
I saw Omaha this past weekend in the Springs. Man, Avery Peterson is good! How in the world did Omaha win the recruiting battle for this former Mr. Hockey Minnesota over the Gophers??? Did Lucia not recruit him or something??? Godsmack
They didn't want him... Hmmm, that's interesting. Well, their loss. I checked his statistics and he's got 18 points. You gotta think he and Jake Randolph have to be in the conversation for NCHC rookie of the year along with Danton Heinen from DU.

How in the world did Omaha win the recruiting battle for this former Mr. Hockey Minnesota over the Gophers??? Did Lucia not recruit him or something??? I believe there was interest in him from Minnesota, UND, Duluth, and many other teams but one of the things that I think allowed Omaha to land him is allowing him to come straight from Grand Rapids. Omaha allowed him to come straight from high school just playing before/after the high school season in the USHL while others wanted him to play a full year of juniors before coming in. I know there was also a little bit of a question about whether he was a good enough skater to be a good college hockey player but I think he has answered that question pretty well in his first year at UNO. Blackheart
Looks like Bucky and Goldy each got their fingers slapped by the Pig10 for their altercation at the end of last Saturday's game... http://www.uscho.com/2015/01/19/big-ten-announces-suspensions-to-wisconsins-wittchow-minnesotas-lettieri/
squirtcoach
Michigan won't have to face Wisconsin's most physical defenseman all weekend and the gophers are trying to catch Michigan? Sucks to be Goldy.?

If you're going to go after Wittchow to stand up for your guy, you do it with honor and challenge him to throw down (or scurry away), not with a flying cross-check from (almost) behind. Mariucci
I did see two goofers double team a bucky player. Nothing new. So you didn't see the 3 Badgers triple teaming a Gopher then?

Siouxman
So you didn't see the 3 Badgers triple teaming a Gopher then?If you have a link to a video clearly showing that, please provide it. None of the videos I have seen show anything where that is clearly visible. All of the clips I have seen start with a pile of players with a linesman in the middle of the mayhem. Is that the specific instance you are referencing? If so, I would like to see a video that that shows things prior to that specific point in time. Not saying it didn't happen, just that I haven't seen a video showing that.
Siouxman
Never mind Mariucci. I found a video that shows the start of the altercation (after the initial penalty) and yes, clearly a Gopher player was surrounded and being closely escorted by three Badger players. That certainly justifies other Gopher players coming to his aid. It does not justify leaving the bench or going 2 on 1 on a Badger player, but things happen quickly at such times.
