siouxu31 Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 No movement? Thank you. Technically we lose the tie breaker to Providence and drop to 11. Quote
homer Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 So, RPI and other power indicators apply in hockey, but not basketball?!?! Got it--thanks!! What a joke and a bunch of hypocrits!! St. Cloud State is better than UND in Hockey because they beat UND!! Its an apples to oranges comparison. The power ranking apply to tournament selections different in the two sports you are desperately trying to compare. The RPI for hockey is an accurate indicator of who is going to make the NCAA tournament with the exception of any teams outside the top 16 who win their conference tournament. FU has an RPI ranking in the 30s but if they didn't win the Summit tournament, no chance they were getting an at large bid. Also, I haven't read too many posts on here by anyone saying UND is a better hockey team than St. Cloud. Quote
siouxweet Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Technically we lose the tie breaker to Providence and drop to 11. yep, simply put providence beat a better opponent and got a bigger bump in RPI than UND did. one bright side of winning last night was not losing as had UND had their RPI would have taken a major hit. win tonight and stay where they are or maybe move up a spot or two depending on what providence and notre dame do. lose and they could possibly fall to that 14-17 range. jimdahl Posted March 15, 2014 Author Posted March 15, 2014 Yep, falling a bit with the win should be no surprise. If you look at the chart I posted, UND stands a decent chance of falling even with two wins. We're still in much better shape than the near catastrophic outcome we would have seen with zero wins. Quote
Frozen4sioux Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Down now to 15.......can't see withstanding anything short of 2 more wins....and then by the hair of the teeth and needing help......it's one and done season...... Quote
Frozen4sioux Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Quick calculations should have us cheering for Sunday wins from........ UND....of course Clarkson BC.....I just threw up a little New Hampshire UMass Loweell Bentley & Air Force although not as big Quote
jimdahl Posted March 17, 2014 Author Posted March 17, 2014 Looks like UND leaves the weekend #13 with a win or #17 with a loss. Would be hard, but not impossible, to climb into an at large bid from #17 without playing anymore games. Quote
iramurphy Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 That was my point. You have some or most posters here taking the position the UND's MBB is better than NDSU's because UND beat us head-to-head. Then as the season progresses and NDSU clearly becomes the better team (RPI and other rankings) and the Summit League is clearly rated ahead of the BSC, most UND fans say RPI and power rankings don't matter. We beat you head-to-head so that doesn't matter, and conference power rankings don't take into consideration the "eye" test or silly things like that. That's why I say St. Cloud State is better than UND in hockey--using UND logic to get there!! What's good for the goose is good for the gander, and, in this case, I'll go with that!! Don't you have a life? Why would you care? Quote
808287 Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 #13 it is, thanks Jim. We'll take it. Waiting for your analysis of 1 win vs. 2 next week. Quote
SJHovey Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 A quick run of the Pairwise predictor shows that a loss to Miami would be pretty damaging. Would likely take a Michigan or Mankato loss in their first game, followed by a win by UND in the consolation game, and no other upsets getting autobids. Quote

goalieheckler Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 How about any scenarios where SCSU watches the NCAA's instead of resting up for them? I can get them to 12th, but never in scenarios where the are enough auto-qualifiers to displace them. I think they are safe. Quote

Would likely take a Michigan or Mankato loss in their first game, followed by a win by UND in the consolation game, and no other upsets getting autobids. I was able to run a predictor that had UND losing to Miami, as well as both Michigan and Mankato winning their first game and still got UND in at #14 (assuming UND won the 3rd place game and no other conf upsets). Kinda figured that...I really don't see Minnesota or Ferris State losing their respective tournaments. Quinnipiac looks tough as well. Hockey East could be anybody's game. Quote
