Had a business man in our small town, he said the more competition he had the better he did

brings more people to town

andy isn't arguing that....he's arguing about tax incentives for the competition....

if it's andy v dave...so be it

if it's andy v dave (backed by GF City Hall and tax incentives)....he's got a right to complain.

Tax incentives are a bitch

give tax incentives to a business, new people move in for the jobs, need new schools and infrastructure and where is the money to pay for those things

Special assessments and more taxes

Kind of sad so many people prefer UND continue to lose a half a million dollars each year on it's golf course.  UND is funded by taxpayers as well, so that's taxpayer money, no?  The golf facility will apparantly make continued operations at ray richards sustainable, and the same could potential be said for the golf program, as it will provide essential facilities for them.  This facility would be a new and different community asset in a way that Albotros isn't.  UND should shut down the golf course (another community asset), sell the property, and shut down the men's golf program if this doesn't get the go-ahead, imo.  Can't be losing taxpayer money now.

His problem is not the competitions it is tax payers funding his competition.   He even says he has not problem with Play it sports and others that have simulators that invested on their own.  His problem is the city giving tax breaks to the completion.

Personally I don't blame him for being pissed.

It’s not an indoor golf simulator. It’s a mixed use development with an outdoor driving range/simulator. It’s the type of thing grand forks needs to attract or retain any young talent. Tax incentives? Good.

Such a Grand Forks attitude. Gross. Competition be damned

I think it is the TIF money that he was grinding on.  I have a serious problem with the overuse of TIF financing.

As currently zoned, is the city currently getting any tax rev from the property?

He also has an issue with a singular simulator bay open to the driving range at Kingswalk which is used for lessons.

How is it Bluepeak is allowed to go through Grand Forks ripping up yards to lay fiber optic wires for people that that are not subscribing to them?

They have been tearing through WY too except out west many were happy to see a fiber internet provider come in and undercut Comcast’s. The construction was a pain but competition always wins

I assume No.  Why should they want to, some property has been set aside for public good uses and they are exempt from property tax.

I read that and it was a weak arguement.

Ive got a bridge to sell you if you believe he doesn't have a problem w/ competition.  Many times has he tried to shake down the Country Club because of their addition of two sims for winter time use of members.  Guy is passionate, ill give him that, but he comes off as a whiner every time.

define "shake down"....they are private out there....just hang up on him or ban him from the premises?

He would be better off to quit whining and promote his business and look for new revenue streams

new rev streams?  like what?  it's golf sims....his rev for sure will go down so far he'll be out of business more than likely

(i guess he could do five dollar happy endings after every hole in one)

His complaining is like a private golf course owner demanding that all public courses either close or be sold to him.

Not sure what all he does in his business.

take a look at the Range in Williston

I think this is very similar to what he is doing.  I believe he does have a shooting range and does have a bar.

In addition to the updated interchange.  The golf course is going to get a major redesign.

Number 1 - no change

Number 2 - par 5 - is going to be two holes.  1) par 4 (old tee box/new green) 3) par 3 (new tee box/slight modes on old green).

Number 3 - no change

Number 4 - new tee box/new green still par 3

Number 5 - new tee box

Number 6 - new green - shorten to a par 4

Number 7 - gone

Number 8 - reworked new tee box/new hreen still par 3

Number 9 - no change.

Previously was a par 36 (2-5/2-3)

New course looks like a par 33 (no par 5s, and 3 par 3s - rest all par 4s)

at this point if that is the plan for rr why not try to use the as much of the old driving range and parking lot to keep it a par 36 without the new developement....par 33 wtf...might as well golf greenwood golf course outside bemidji?  just close it for good and have top golf use the whole plot of land with the big condos and townhouses and what not with no golf course ...
