darell1976 Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 I don't know about the rest of you but anytime I see a post start this way I just skip it (well other than this time since I did reply). Just so negative and confrontational. Unnecessary really. What do you expect from a Bison fan on a UND board. Quote
Bison Dan Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 What do you expect from a Bison fan on a UND board. Right - you need to be a kool-aid drinker to be here. Quote

darell1976 Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 No, because the kool-aid on Bisonville is yellow ... and isn't kool-aid. Just like they say...don't eat the yellow snow. Quote
mg2009 Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 The Summit League is a hodge-podge, ticky-tack conference for schools that don't have any better place to go. you realize that the is the only reason that the big sky is 'stable', right? It's a bunch of medicore schools with football who either don't want to be (UM) or can't be (everyone else) FBS. with potential 15 football members soon, THE BSC looks pretty rickety. Quote
mg2009 Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 And how many teams in the Summit league would you want to latch on to - keeping in mind you can't list any former NCC schools because those are the schools that others wanted to leave behind. last i checked, it was UND that wanted to stay forever in the happy confines of the NCC, NDSU was trying to and DID get the best schools to make the jump. Trying to follow UM and MSU into the FBS is hilariously wrong-headed because 1) those schools aren't going FBS 2) no conference that wants UM and MSU is going to want UND if the idea is to ride around on some schools coattails (god thats a pathetic thought, btw) the best bet would be that school down south, because they could actually make the jump. mg2009 Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Who do you think makes the jump first, NDSU or UM? Quote
dmksioux Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Who do you think makes the jump first, NDSU or UM? Seriously? Which FBS conference footprint does NDSU lie within? Big Ten, not going to happen. Big 12, not going to happen. MAC, have fun with that, still outside the footprint. Which FBS Conference footprint does UM lie within? Already's been courted by the WAC. With their stadium capacity, could possibly be looked at by the MWC and are in the footprint of that conference. Take into account that the Big Sky Commissioner has already been quoted as wanting to position the conference for that "second tier" of schools should the FBS schools leave and form their own league. Montana has already had the initial opportunity and are better positioned to be invited to a FBS school than NDSU. Does that mean it will translate to UND having the same chance? Who knows, but it's still nice to be connected to the Montana schools and a Western Conference where there tends to be more opportunities for moving up. 1 Quote

Don't worry the Summit will be stable when its NCC 2.0 and when the MVC gets ready to expand, SDSU and USD will make great partners with one another for the jump. NDSU is no longer joined with anyone at the hip and has no travel partner either. Quote
SIOUXFAN97 Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 as for FBS or FCS once all this realignment stuff goes down (maybe after july 1st?) you will have the pac 12, big 12, big 10, sec, and maybe the acc and big east and everyone else will be technically fcs anyways....the only difference is that the people in missoula and bozeman primarily want local kids to represent their school and would rather play for a championship on the field instead of some San Francisco Bowl against Eastern Michigan? is arkansas state and their 9 million dollars athletic budget more FBS than UND and their 19 million dollar budget and for that matter NDAC and their 14 million dollar budget? JackJD Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 ...the sodaks are now a team and the bison would be on an island....never thought of that? Incorrect. SDSU and NDSU continue to be connected. If the MVFC made any additional moves, USD has the advantage of a little better location than SDSU and a lot better location than NDSU. Quote

Last year UND football took the Great West title. UND men's hockey won the Broadmoor Trophy (which UND has won 3 years in a row). Both the men's and women's hockey teams participated in the NCAA tournaments. The men's BB team took it to your boys. Yeah, "nothing". 4 Quote

GeauxSioux Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 GWC was terrible last year - and well if that's all the hockey fans expect from their hockey team is to win the Broadmoor then Bingo - successful year! Ahem, you said "nothing". Winning conference championships is "something". Obviously the bar is quite a bit higher than winning conference trophies, but winning them is one of the goals the teams strive for during the season. It is not the ulitmate goal of the players, coaches, or fans, but a goal nonetheless. 1 Quote
The Sicatoka Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Think about this: The University of North Dakota mens hockey team is being "busted on" for just accomplishing ... - a national championship game lost in OT - another national championship game appearance - four other Frozen Four appearances (national semi-finalist) - a Broadmoor Trophy three-in-a-row (never done before), plus another in 2006 - four MacNaughton Cups - a Hobey Baker winner ... in just the last 12 seasons. (Go back 13 and you have a National Championship and another Broadmoor.) That's fifty years for some college programs. Other college programs can't claim even parts of that. Yeah, UND Hockey: the bar is set pretty high. Quote
