Like someone said earlier we need to spread ut the scoring so we are very difficult to plat against.

Kristo-Knight-Rodwell

Setup guy, finisher and a banger

Parks-Rowney-McMillian

played lights out and the end of last season

Chyzk-Grimaldi-Caggiula(O'donnell)

Not enough spots for everyone

The General-Gaarder-St. Clair

I think we can all agree:

scoring 1: Knight with Kristo and someone

scoring 2 (to start the year at least): Rowney with Parks and MacMIllan

Scoring 3: Grimaldi with someone with enough skill to play with him and someone to protect him/them with a little experience

Energy: The guys who earn ice in practice

So, who is left and what do we know about them?

O'Donnell- decent physically, solid offensively, scored some goals last year before getting hurt

Rodwell- speedy, mucks it up, never done much offensively at the college level

Pattyn- prototype Sioux energy line guy, put on 20 pounds in the gym this summer

Gleason- can play forward or D, speedy, smart

Gaarder- overachieving energy line guy

Chyzyk- good offensive numbers in USHL (20 y/o)

Caggiula- good offensive numbers in the OJHL (18 y/o)- fact he's coming in at 18 means he will play

St Clair- early bloomer, sat out a year, modest numbers in USHL (20 y/o)

You have Grimaldi on the 4th line?!?

Since this is as likely as anything:

The Y Line: Rowney, Pattyn, Chyzyk

The Double-Letter Lines: MacMillan, MacMillan, and O'Donnell; Caggliua, Rodwell, Gaarder. (Pattyn is already on the Y Line.)

OK, now I'm stretching:

Special Ks: Knight, Kristo, and Parks (hey, there's a K in Parks)

That leaves Grimaldi, Sanderson, and St. Clair. Not sure what to go with there.

Just saw the tweet: Captains and alternates will be announced later today.

My predictions:

C - MacWilliam (too many will pick Knight)

A - Knight

A - Rowney

and if they go with a third A I'm going darkhorse ... The General.

Yeah, I left Kristo out of the mix. Not sure why.

Captains and Alternates for 2012-2013

A - Danny Kristo

lmao!

The A team: Grimaldi Sanderson St.Clair

They all have a's in their name, works? The older fans should get that one.

Not a CHANCE that Grimaldi is on the third line. I'm sorry, but he's wayyy to talented to waste on that line. Having him at No. 1 wing, he will create more and be created for. Spreading out the lines to make our scoring more "balanced" is jsut nuts. All it does is water down the top of our lines or two. We have A LOT of depth this year and having Grimaldi on the top line gives us one of the best, if not the best, line in the conference. Here's my call:

Kristo-Knight-Grimaldi

McMillian-Rowney-Parks

Rodwell-St. Clair-Chyzyk

Pattyn-Gaarder-Sanderson (Jimmer, Mi. McMillian)

MacWilliam-Schmaltz

Forbort-Matton

Totally forgot about Caggiulla.... here's my new lineup....

Anyone think this could be a real fun "energy" line to watch??

It is not an insult to not be on the so-called top line-

You don't stack a line, unless that is your only primary offense. Balanced scoring wins titles.

I disagree wholeheartedly with converting a highly talented center to wing so that they can "fill out" the top line

I agree with Yzerman19 for a variety of reasons. First of all, that top line needs a big body for the front of the net. That was Nelson's role, so I believe someone with some frame will be there. Hak has stated that center is Grimaldi's natural position. I believe that he will start as the third line center to take some pressure off him in the center role. It will also allow them to bring him along slowly after the knee surgery. And, if he is fully ready to go, his line could dominate an opposing team's third line and provide more scoring in that role than he might add to the top line. I do think that Grimaldi will have a slower start than many people expect, simply because he is such an unusual talent his teammates will need to get used to him. In the very few games he played last year he showed an extraordinary ability to execute a pass when it was least expected and his linemates just were not ready. They will need to learn to have their sticks ready at all times because Rocco will get them the puck. This is all at the start of the season. What happens after the first few games is anyone's guess, even moreso than this is.

We've arguably won the best top-line title in the country 3 times in the past decade, but never a national championship.

Parise- Bochenski- Murray

Toews- Oshie- Duncan

Zajac- Stafford- Spirko

They were certainly a dynamic line and should be added to the list.

You have O'Donnell as a healthy scratch?

Posted

Regardless of what the lines are, its at least a little bit refreshing to know that UND SHOULD have enough healthy bodies to fill out a full roster with healthy scratches on game nights.

The wild card in the whole line setup is Grimaldi. Whether the coaching staff thinks he'll be better suited playing in the middle or on the wall. I personally think they'll start him on a wing and maybe let him grow into a center role as the season progresses.

I think the only thing we know for certain is that Knight and Kristo will be with each other, and Parks and McMillan. After that.....any guess is as good as mine.

Posted

My 2 cents:

  • Kristo and Grimaldi should be on different lines as they are so similar, but also smaller.
  • St. Clair is going to have some serious pent up rage to lay out on some of his first hits.
  • Look for Rowney, Parks, Mattson, and Simpson to be huge players.
  • This team MIGHT be to balanced to have anyone in hobby talk, but Kristo and Grimaldi have the skill.
  • Big potential but question mark in nets.
  • Keep Rocco off Twitter...

 Thank you for helping me make my point...a lot of the folks who want to see Grimaldi on that first line, that would be like replacing Trupper with Gregoire two years ago. I guess the point is

#1 on ice chemistry trumps every piece of paper or stat sheet

#2 balanced scoring gets you a title- That Sioux team was the best team in the nation and beats Michigan 8 or 9 outta 10- and they (2010-2011 Sioux) had the best 1-2 line punch with balanced scoring

#3 I don't care about stats- I care about wins

#4 I don't care about Hobey Bakers- I care about national championships

I am liking our team on paper this year...I can't wait to see them on the ice

Rocco Grimaldi is going to be a top six forward - "if" he is on the third line it won't be for very long. Just a prediction. I am up for side bets as well.:D:lol::)
