The Horizon is exclusively big city Midwest, not rural as USD is. And the Horizon only has one fb school. If a UNO/UMKC combo is taken, the Summit and the WAC could both be in trouble. The Horizon would still need a travel partner for UIC, either IPFW or IUPUI, another hit against the Slummit. The news does not look good, but not worried at all as some are. zonadub
You mean like Minnesota State University instead of Minnesota State University - Moorhead? oh wait... that one's already taken. It was just plain Moorhead State University not that long ago.

SiouxVolley
According to a PA newspaper, Robert Morris may even be invited to the Horizon and MVFC. With Murray St likely tapped by the MVFC when the MVC goes to 12, RoMo makes no sense unless the MVFC fears the Dakota 4 breaking away. Neither RMU or Murray State will ever be in the MVFC. The league is not a home for wayward schools, unless a school gets invited to the Summit or MVC they will not have a shot at getting in. And no, Murray is not going to get an MVC invite. Academics alone will keep them out. Since everyone likes "reading between the lines", check out Elgin's latest interview on CBS. BisonCardinal
Will the hockey tie to UND and Denver provide sufficient/any incentive for UNO to stay in the Summit? I'm hoping it does.
SWSiouxMN
The Horizon is going to have some interesting decisions to make once Valpo says Yes to the MVC and leaves for the 17-18 season. How far out of the box could they go with this? I do think they grab 3 to help on future raiding and solve the baseball issue. In the box options Bobby Mo Indiana Summit Schools Out of box options Omaha UMKC NMSU (It was about a year ago that this was floated out there, do they go to the well once more here?)* *Yes, I realize its highly unlikely but then again I never expected Omaha to even sniff a campus tour by the MVC.... conference realignments do provide some strange scenarios
UNDColorado
If these six schools got together we would never have to worry about getting raided again: 4 Dakota Schools Montana Montana State We would obviously need more than six schools but this core of six would be able to withstand almost any realignment scenarios out there.

I would put Idaho with that group giving its proximity to the Montana schools and it is a land grant school.

Just for kicks I would also add EWU, Denver and UNC. 9 football schools with 10 total. Edit: Forgot about Omaha as it would make sense to try to fit them in somehow. Or let them go to the Horizon and we don't have to worry about it.

Popular Post Siouxperfan7
Just need to form a conference with 10 schools where only 9 sponsor football then you are set. UND, NDSU, USD, SDSU, Montana, Montana St, Idaho, EWU, UNC, and throw in non football Denver to make 10. Gives you 8 conference football games where you play every team. Having an even number of teams of all other sports makes scheduling easier and it sets up great travel partners for everyone. Boom there you go!!

A 9/12 works also (8 FB games; 22 BB games) Two schools w/o basketball? UNO, UMKC. PS - UNC won't get much love from DU and the Montanas. How about Weber State instead. bincitysioux
Been really busy lately, so am a bit out of the loop. Have been catching up on this thread tonight. Apparently there are some schools that may potentially be looking at leaving the Summit League. Who could have ever guessed?

SiouxVolley
Would seem that Robert Morris wants to move up in basketball. Their current conference, the NEC, is a DII facilities conference. http://rmucolonials.com/news/2017/1/19/athletics-robert-morris-to-build-upmc-events-center.aspx Pittsburgh isn't far from Youngstown St, so the Horizon would be adding a bit of a big market. Pitt and Duquesne are already there with much bigger backing. The question remains if the Horizon adds two more to go to 12, likely IPFW and IUPUI. IPFW is almost the only show in town. The other option still takes away one Slummit team: Omaha and UMKC.
