scpa0305 Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 You hit the nail right on the head. And I think this year's team is evidence that Hakstol is doing just that. Hakstols recruiting hasn't changed the least bit...nor should it. That's his biggest skill...I like Hak a lot because of all the talent he has been able to bring to a small community. However one would think he would have had 1-2 nattys by now. I feel it had been mostly bad luck why they haven't one a chip under him yet. This years team will be a long shot...but hopefully they peak at the end of the year. They have talent. Quote
siouxweet Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Yeah, there's a lot of hockey between us and March. I think there will be some bumps along the way and I have learned not to overreact to every bad-looking loss in October and November. I am looking forward to watching these freshmen grow and mature. I have a feeling this weekend will be one of those bumps and bad looking loss(es) in october. Quote
MafiaMan Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 So, does that mean Rudy has a nationally syndicated talk show too where he can call young volunteers slave labor? Just called my friend to clarify...turns out Rudy is the SECOND-MOST arrogant pompous prick he'd met in his life. Quote

fightingsioux4life Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 What has changed in his recruiting style outside of what appears to be more offensive D-Men? The forwards are looking more like the ones we had in the 1990's: smaller, faster, more skilled. I think Hakstol is trying to build a team that can keep up with those speedy teams in Hockey East. Being tough, rugged and physical worked during the regular season, but not once the NCAA tournament rolled around. Whether this works out or not is anybody's guess. Quote

fightingsioux4life Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 No more defensive Finleys.... I mean pylons. Yeah, that too. This team just has a different feel to it than previous Hakstol teams. And I mean that in a good way. Quote
UNDBIZ Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Our defense is really talented and can skate. Agreed. Hak recruited skaters instead of giant pylons...... who were garbage. 1 Quote

MafiaMan Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 NCHC Season Preview and Predictions Discuss. Thanks for the link. I found it interesting that in 13 years at UMD, Scott Sandelin has a winning percentage of only .503. I'd be curious to see Mike Sertich's winning percentage during his tenure in Duluth. Quote

I'd be curious to see Mike Sertich's winning percentage during his tenure in Duluth. I've got Mike Sertich at 350-328-44 (.515) over 18 seasons with Minnesota-Duluth (1982-2000). First three years (1982-85) at UMD were great: 93-37-6 overall record (.706) 3 NCAA tournament appearances 2 Frozen Fours 2 WCHA regular season titles 2 WCHA playoff titles and then only one NCAA bid over his final 15 years (that coming in 1992-93). Over his final five coaching seasons (1998-2000 with Duluth and 2000-2003 with Michigan Tech), he went just 47-118-13 (.272) and pushed his career winning percentage under .500 (.487). Dave Quote

Ouch. I always liked Sertich as a coach but he was a little too obsessed with UMTC during his tenure at UMD. Too bad he couldn't win the title in '84...absolutely loaded team. Quote
UNDBIZ Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 http://www.nchchocke...errer_id=878553 The four final names than fans can select from, as narrowed down by the NCHC staff, are: The NCHC Frozen Faceoff, The NCHC Final Faceoff, the National Collegiate Hockey Championship, and The NCHC Fabulous Four. Fans can vote for their favorite name by taking the poll. I voted for the "NCHC Final Faceoff" Don't really care which is chosen for the name, as long as it's not the Fabulous Four. Quote

UNDBIZ Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 isn't the women's wcha tournament called the final faceoff? No idea, if it is then I suppose the NCHC should go with one of the other 2. Quote

UNDBIZ Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Frozen Faceoff...as opposed to an UN-Frozen Faceoff? Well yeah, we're not playing floor hockey or field hockey. What does lacrosse refer to their faceoff thingies as? Quote
MafiaMan Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Well yeah, we're not playing floor hockey or field hockey. What does lacrosse refer to their faceoff thingies as? Scrums? We could ask someone who watches a lot of lacrosse on Saturdays...I'll text Goon now. Quote
dagies Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 I suggested "The 'National' Championship". I can't believe that didn't make the final list. :-) 2 Quote
TC_transplant Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Maybe travel costs for Miami and Western? http://www.sent-trib...hockey-10-30-13 With Western Michigan already having one of the worst football programs in the land, does it make financial sense to fly to Denver and Colorado Springs and Omaha and Grand Forks rather than bus to Michigan Tech or Northern Michigan or Bowling Green (less than 3 hours). Mankato made more sense. Quote

Mankato made more sense. I don't think Miami is going to leave the NCHC and Western Michigan begged to get into the NCHC so, I would take rumor with a grain of salt. BGSU was also one of the last schools to accept the invitation to get into the WCHA. Quote
