FRATTIN 4 HOBEY

AZSIOUX

Recommended Posts

According to Cam Atkinson's twitter (http://twitter.com/CamAtkinson13), he is one of the Hobey Hattrick, which will officially be announced on Thursday.

So he will be the sole Eastern player...with the other two being Frattin and Miele.

Frattin is the only player of those three still playing...and neither of the other two advanced past the 1st round. That has to increase his odds a bit.

What an irresponsible move by Atkinson. Part of the criteria for picking the Hobey recipient is exhibiting strong character...no doubt the selection committee will shake their heads when they find out that he announced this a day before the press release!

Considering the the final announcement is April 8th, is it safe to say that Frattin's performance the night before against MI will not affect his chances to win the award? I imagine all the voting will be finished at least a couple days in advance of the final announcement.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the final voting has already taken place. The voting takes place just a couple days after the regionals are completed, and then the Hobey Hattrick is announced (essentially just the top 3 vote getters). Then they just wait to announce the winner until the F4.

Agreed on Atkinson though...kind of a dumb thing to announce already when it hasn't been officially released.

Obviously I have no personal knowledge of this young man, but his Twitter feed gives a glance at a rather me-centric existence.

After hearing the USCHO podcast on the Hobey hat trick, doesn't sound like Frattin is going to win. During the conference call that takes place between the voters, it sounds as if Frattin's character really depleted his chances, and the guy talking actually was surprised he got into the Hat Trick at all. Also after hearing what John Buccigross is saying, Miele is the front runner after he talked to a number of voters.

Sounds like Frattin will be a runner-up.

It's not his character, it's his REPUTATION if you ask me. There's a difference. But I agree. It's too bad, but some people aren't willing to overlook past transgressions. That guy on the podcast sounded like a d-bag anyways. Definite east coast bias considering all his praise for Atkinson, yet Atkinson beat up a kid on a bike.

I have a strong feeling that this will be accurate, I hope we are wrong, but, ive been hearing a ton about miele miele miele,

it' pretty common of a thread to rip apart frattins goals on empty nets and against poor teams that I think many a voter will be swayed

Then again we heard a lot about Yale Yale Yale.

Atkinson can got to hell.......or Columbus whichever is worse.

Just a thought, I don't want to jinx the Sioux but...

If the Sioux won on Thursday and made it to the Championship game (Knock on Wood) do you think Frattin would turn up to the Hobey award ceremony?

If it were me, I wouldn't. There are much bigger things to be focused on.

Team success comes first, individual awards come second.

I believe you have to.

Gerbe was there in 08, as did Blake Geoffrion last year, and Matt Gilroy and Colin Wilson the year before. All of those guys played in the national championship game the next day. He's not going to not show up. It's on TV. It's not like he knows who is going to win. How would it look if the winner wasn't there? He'll be there.

It is a great honor for Frattin to in the final 3! But we aren't looking at a Panzer was robbed situation here if he doesn't win it...Miele has had a fantastic season and would be a great choice for the award as well. That said, I am pretty sure Frattin isn't giving the Hobey much thought right now, but he would be a very worthy winner as well.....had some problems sure, but his character in handling the matter and the direction he chose to take speaks volumes....you have to remember that many of the voters have only heard bits and pieces on most of the candidates.

With a race as close as it is, Frattin's past is the deciding factor if you ask me.

And hasn't it already been decided? I believe the top vote getter of the hat trick is the winner and they don't vote again.

I have been looking at this and this is what the Hobey Baker website says:

Hobey Baker Memorial Award Selection Process

Every head hockey coach at an accredited Division I NCAA school receives one ballot. Coaches are asked to pick the top three players in their league and the top three players in the nation (two separate rankings, three players each; a player may be listed in both places, and a coach can vote for his own player).

Coaches from 58 schools receive a ballot. Those ballots, along with Vote for Hobey's Preliminary Voting results, are tabulated by an accounting firm to determine the 10 finalists.

This top ten advances to the Selection Committee, which decides the eventual winner from the top ten. This committee is composed of print media, electronic media, NHL scouts, and the American Hockey Coaches Association (college hockey coaches). Its members are spread out among the hockey-playing section of the United States. The committee also includes an individual from USA Hockey.

Selection Committee terms are three years, and members may be reappointed. Selection Committee nominees are approved by a six-member Advisory Committee representing expertise in all facets of hockey.

But this still confuses me because you still voted for the top ten this year. I don't remember if we have in previous years. Perhaps someone who remember can better explain this.

If you listen to the USCHO Hobey Podcast, it sounds like it is Miele's award to lose:

http://www.uscho.com/podcasts/2011/03/30/uscho-com-hobey-watch-2011-podcast-episode-11-hobey-hat-trick/

And as petey23 said, I would be alright with it too if Miele won the award. Do I want Frattin to win? Absolutely.

But with those two players so close, I think Frattin's past trips him up and it goes to Miele.

A deserving award to either of them though...
