It's not like we don't have a ton of talent coming in, but it just looks bad. At least he isn't going to a B1G school.

Omaha had Dean Blais as coach, so that's how they pulled in legacy recruits.

Ausmus plateaued, Spicer has all of 15 career points through his sophomore season, and Panzer had "another Zach Yon" written all over him (stud in HS, passed in NHL draft, never made an impact in USHL).

It's doubtful there's a bad guy in this story.  Sometimes players don't turn into what the projection was at age 16, and they find a better fit.

Probably not. It's just been a tough week for UND athletics. Hopefully that all changes tomorrow.

This is the most plausible answer. TBH, not sure he gets in a game next season and moving would have most likely been tough for him. BSU is a great landing spot for him. Guessing this was all worked out behind the scenes.

I would say it’s less of “we lost him” to more of a circumstance where he wasn’t really producing at the junior level and the writing was on the wall for how much playing time he would have ever gotten at UND. 
Not much attention would be paid to this if his last name wasn’t Panzer.

Yeah, heaven forbid we replace him with another Cameron Berg, or a Hunter Johannes type.  We need a good mix of size, speed, grit and determination, and if the coaches think we are missing an element to being a championship team, I don’t mind them going out to get a missing component.  Feel bad for Panzer if that is the case, as his dad expressed his dismay with the portal, but like it or not, it will play some part in team makeup.

Give him a couple years at BSU...and give Spicer another season at UMD...and then they'll be ready to join UND via the transfer portal.
