With Gordon out, is there now 13 F expected for next Fall?

What was everyone so high on Gordon about?  I just trusted there was other factors because his stats dropped off significantly.

Was he playing injured last season because he went from 18G 18A to 7G 19A?

A nice player for sure but assuming everyone assumed he'd regain his freshman season form while transitioning from the CCHA to the NCHC...

Tech was worse in 2024-25 than in 2023-24 so that had some effect, but he regressed a bit as well. A lot of people were banking on him putting up better numbers with better linemates, but no guarantees of that in a tougher conference/schedule.

For top 6 ice time at UND he would have had to beat out two of Swanson, James, Zellers, Strinden, and Menghini. We also saw with Wilkie (who was a better transfer than Gordon) that the NCHC is tough to produce in, especially if you are not on the top powerplay.

It’s also worth noting that he probably hears about kids taking visits for next year. Players are involved with visits and he knows guys on the team. I don’t know if he spent any time on campus but he definitely is/was aware of who could be coming in still. If UND lands another blue chip at wing in the next couple weeks, it could be his spot that they are taking.

I think he was just on the higher end of what was in the portal at the time. I don't think he was coming in to be a superstar but would have added nice experience and some points to the roster. I'm sure Brynn will find a solid replacement; it sounds like there are still plenty of high end CHL guys out there, so maybe it ends out working out for the best. 

Not saying we need to go into the MN HS ranks and pluck a Connor Gaarder out of nowhere, but it would be fun to be at the end of the year and have a guy making big contributions, who only ended up at UND because of this kind of fluky situation. Always makes for a great story. Gordon aside, this is the most excited I have been for UND hockey in quite a few years. I didn't even realize how apathetic I had become about UND hockey until the coaching and recruiting shakeups this year.

My 11 year old son absolutely loves UND hockey, and all he has really gotten to see is mediocrity and either missing or losing in the tourney (he was like 2 when we won the Natty) so he does even understand how it used to be a forgone conclusion that UND was going to make the tourney, and disappointment was not getting into the Frozen Four, or losing in the Frozen Four in some epic fashion. That used to be the standard! Hope Jackson can get us back to some of that.

Would love to see Zellers come in and just keep playing as hot as he has everywhere else. All we have heard for years is how dominant this kid is. Would also love to see Swanson take a big step this year!

My thoughts as well, have we seen someone come from the CCHA to NCHC and light it up?  They're usually decent depth, two-way forwards.  I think all of our perspectives have shifted a bit when we saw what Chyzyk is able to bring to this program on the recruiting trails.

I think the other thing the liked about Gordon is that he will be a junior, and thus balances out the classes a bit.  It's an unfortunate loss, but that will also depend upon who UND can find to fill that roster spot.

The portal is closed, the only reason Gordon was able to is because of the recent coaching change at Michigan Tech.

But he didn’t make this decision 2 weeks ago… and also any mention of the coaching change is absent from his statement. Just went back because MTU is “special”.  The coaching change gave him the opening to transfer back once he found out he’d likely be 3rd line. Not blaming him, just my opinion.

It's very possible the coaches suggested it to him after getting traction on CHL kids.

Huge year for him! It will be great for his development. Going through the meat grinder the past two years, now will get full reigns on ice time and the top PP.
