CMSioux Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 I will be at the St. Cloud game this afternoon with my two teen daughters, our first every women's hockey game so not sure what to expect. I did tell them it won't quite be like a men's game for atmosphere. Go Sioux! Quote

dakotadan Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 UND Hockey: Mirror Images A good read comparing the 2 hockey coaches at UND. I really think Idalski is taking this program in the right direction and will have them competing as one of the top programs in the country on a yearly basis. The ladies have really been competitive this season but just haven't had the breaks to put up more W's. Next year should really be a fun year. Quote
Risky Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Do we still get Canadian Television Olympic coverage on our local Midcon television menu? I know we have in the past. Quote
fightingsioux4life Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Do we still get Canadian Television Olympic coverage on our local Midcon television menu? I know we have in the past. Well, if you get CBC on your cable package, you will get Canadian Olympic coverage since that is Canada's official Olympic network. I get CBC, so I will get some extra hockey games out of it. Quote

gfhockey Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 huge!!! expect to see some swedish/european high end talent (even if there isnt that many but i bet we get the cream of the crop now) Quote
star2city Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 huge!!! expect to see some swedish/european high end talent (even if there isnt that many but i bet we get the cream of the crop now) So the choice will be UND & REA vs UMD & new DECC. Which wins? Quote
Let'sGoHawks! Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Wow, that is quite the hire. I like the part about the Olympic team having 4 high schoolers on it. Perhaps they will follow their coach to UND. Quote
the green team Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Does anyone know where Canadian star Poulin is going? Quote
farce poobah Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Sweden's Olympic coach hired as UND assistant: http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/arti...056/group/home/ This is simply huge. The pieces of the puzzle are falling into place. Next season becomes a blockbuster, in many ways. Next 3 seasons will be transformational for women's hockey at UND. Quote
tnt Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 The question now is do they change the way do business now and charge Fighting Sioux club members next year to go to women's hockey games, or do they wait until people are hooked on the new product and grow a following? Quote

No way should they charge...yet. Serve beer, make games fun, promote the hell out of it. If the team starts winning, and there are plays like we saw in the Olympics, I think it will grow. Womens hockey isn't going anywhere, we might as well become a national power and lead the country in attendance. I imagine if we averaged 2,000 per game, it would be near the top numbers in women's hockey. The athletic department has to capitalize on the opportunity presented to them for next season. They won't get a better chance. Quote
star2city Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 From Twitter: UND hires Swedish Olympic Coach Many observers might be scratching their heads saying why hire a coach whose team placed 4th at the Olympics and was dominated by the North Americans? Well the long answer is not unsurprising for those who have been following the development of the game. Elite European hockey players are far better than many of US high school students hoping to snag a scholarship and play varsity hockey. Brian Idalski, UND Quote
The Sicatoka Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 If Brian Idalski wants to become the "Geno Auriemma" of college womens hockey I could live with that. Quote
