Probably my 2nd favorite article Schloss has written. First place obviously being '24 Hours to a Title'4 points

I’d much rather we play Auggie or Bemidji fir exhibitions going forward (once our thanksgiving contract with BSU ends). Playing Toba has run its course since we don’t get anything from it.3 points

I think one of the unrecognized high points of this season so far is our run defense. Look at Montana's rushing stats, they have put up more than 300 yards a game on every team they played except UND. This is the year to grab a rare win in the UNIDome.3 points

Can North Dakota’s Roster Overhaul Take It Back to Success? North Dakota enters an intriguing year with a lot of players leaving North Dakota after the lack of success the past few seasons and the firing of 10-year head coach Brad Berry. The most notable of them is sophomore Sacha Boisvert; their 30-point first-line center elected to transfer to Boston University. Five of last season’s top six forwards have left. North Dakota got to work in recruiting and the transfer portal, and committed two of the top CHL prospects in forward Cole Reschny and defenseman Keaton Verhoeff. Reschny, the 18th overall pick of the 2025 NHL draft, will have high expectations to lead the forwards with returning senior Dylan James. Clarkson transfer Ellis Rickwood had 35 points last season for the Golden Knights and will be a key piece in the Fighting Hawks' offense. “I expect ups and downs, usually our best players, they have some struggles but if you're a smart player you learn to adapt. Usually by the second half, you start to get comfortable and you’re not considered a rookie anymore.” coach Dane Jackson said. The Fighting Hawks' goaltending situation looks new as well with Arizona State transfer Gibson Homer being the target for the starting role. A change of scenery for the North Dakota bench with the firing of Berry and long-time assistant Jackson stepping up. https://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2025/10/02_2025-26-NCHC-Watch-List.php3 points

This was the big news during the luncheon when Jackson spoke to the media.3 points

I read parts of the season preview section in the Heraldo. I think it is safe to say that the coaching change saved the program from a catastrophic crash.3 points

A dang good article from Schloss about how UND scrambled to fill the roster spots for this season: https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/the-inside-story-of-how-und-saved-the-roster-this-summer Sounds like the coaches were traveling all over the US and Canada visiting with players, commits, and potential recruits. They certainly earned their paychecks this summer.3 points

Someone bought all the local ABC air time in MN from 7-8 pm tonight (Thu Oct 2): KSTP, Duluth, Rochester and Fargo and Sioux Falls. It's a look at MSP. Or is it a warning to Fargo and Grand Forks. https://precariousstate.com/ Oct 2nd 7-8 PM CT WDAY-TV Host is Rick Kupchella ... yeah, that guy's son.2 points

+1 Both heading off in opposite directions on player visits. The coaching staff definitely put in the work this offseason.2 points

Indeed, what a nice piece. Well done Schloss! So many good comments in there but I really liked this one: "In the end, it was a clear delineation," Jackson said. "Guys that were character guys that loved our program, that wanted to stay, stayed." Kind of tells you a little bit about where things were last year. Clean slate this season and let's hope that they have that tight bond that's needed to all pull in the same direction! And then I chuckled at the part at the end when Jax and Dillon passed each other on the highway going in opposite directions and gave each other a fist pump out the window. Love to see the energy and passion, and hope the team can get off to a good start and build some positive momentum. Can't wait until Sat night!2 points

The program has a bit of a hop to its step heading into the season, I like that. I'm anxious to see how they come out on Saturday. I think it was Matt Greene who said it doesn't matter what game we are playing in at North Dakota, its a big game. I hope they take that approach and score three in the first period. Yeah, get everybody out there and going, but I'd like to see some desperation, albeit in an exhibition game.2 points

The quotes from Jackson and Chyzyk about not wanting to essentially put a bandaid on the program for a year when rebuilding the roster were what stuck out when reading this, because in my mind, that’s probably exactly what Berry would have done - because it’s what has been going on for a while. They are thinking long term, not short term.2 points

Watched all of the interviews posted above. The best part, IMO, was when Gibson Homer was asked how good this team is. He said "This team is SO good!" He went on to comment about an abundance of speed. Great news from a junior GT that has played in the NCHC - I would think he knows how to gauge the team.2 points

Agreed. If Berry would have been retained for another season, I'm guessing the roster would look quite a bit different right now. And not in a good way.2 points

I agree with this, however, I would also argue that had he stayed another year, his floor/ceiling would have been higher as an impact player at that level and he would have had a better opportunity to reach his full potential. You don't go #10 overall and not have the ability to play at that level. But in 8 seasons he has yet to break the 30 point mark or 15 goals in a single season with his best year being 2018-19 where he tallied 11g and 15a for 26 points. Another year would definitely not have hurt him.1 point

Really interested to see what happens in Michigan Tech Minnesota. If UMN can boatrace the Huskies, it may signify that they're way better than I expect.1 point

Duluth from my view has lost the benefit of the doubt based on the past couple of years. I’ll give the benefit to ASU to finish higher in the conference.1 point

St. Cloud isn’t better and got worse in goal, 4th is a huge reach. He did have Western Michigan 7th last year1 point

MN was in the West for how many years and couldn't get it done. The West was HORRIBLE.1 point

Hak was already a legend in my book personally. Seeing him help support the program in the ways he has these past few months since March has been awesome. There's only a small amount that gets reported about but seems like he's been willing to support the new staff alot.1 point

Sounds like Littler really worked on his skating this offseason: https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/und-hockey-forward-cade-littler-adds-speed-to-sturdy-frame-after-effective-freshman-campaign1 point

Thanks for sharing! It was a good listen! I appreciated their observations about Penn State historically having a very weak non-conference schedule and this year is no exception. They have road trips to ASU and RIT so that ASU trip is tough but then six home games against LIU, Clarkson, and Stonehill. Looks like McKenna can boost his Hobey resume playing some weaker opponents.1 point

Kessel was traded to Pittsburgh for players from Pittsburgh's own draft pool and journeyman, Nick Spaling. Toronto also retained some of Kessel's salary making Kessel even more affordable wherever he was ultimately traded. Kessel to Pittsburgh was not some huge free agent signing; it was a trade. And since Pittsburgh would have had the trade assets even with Parise on the team, Pittsburgh could have still traded for Kessel. And, we get it; you're a Kessel fan. I'm more of a Parise-guy myself, though.1 point

It would be hard to find a more political video. Had I started a thread and posted a video touting the benefits of socialism, it would have been shut down faster than government and fewer people would lose their jobs. Instead, @jimdahl allows a double-standard. The first commentator owns a property management company with dozens of violations who created a PAC to fund candidates that have pledged to remove renter protections. His company has made political donations only to Republicans, including the RNC, MJT, and other candidates outside of MN. Money that could have been donated in state to help improve the situation he laments. The first five minutes includes them bitching about no parking, but because Google exists, there are at least six parking garages or lots within three blocks of where they're standing. It also focuses solely on the cities. If it was about the precarious state of Minnesota, it probably should have mentioned that sweet, sweet socialism the farmers need just to stay afloat.0 points
