Verhoeff had a really rough game. Bad turnovers. Not a great effort to clear the crease on the rebound goal. Not surprised he had the worst +/-. I'm not sure if there at TOI stats anywhere, but it seems like he probably leads the D-men along with Jake. Even prior to last night, I have a hard time seeing how he continues to get so much ice time. Aside from a really good shot, I fail to see much else where he really stands out. I get that he is young, but I would expect more from a guy who is being mentioned as a top 3 potential draft pick.

This team isn’t the type to throw out excuses. But if Kernan was out with the flu likely it’s still making its way through the team at obviously a bad time of the year. Better now than in the NCAAs though

Right. No one seems to use the eyeball test anymore. Had TH and Mike on in one ear and both commented mid first how Jan wasn't sharp and fighting the puck. They could easily see it.

Hopefully Oly is not out long term ,enough bad performances to go around. This was a team loss not on just on player.

Exactly.  Was he possibly promised special treatment when he was recruited.

I’m not sure what to make of this game. The defense was leaky which has been a trend lately. Sickness could be an issue. It doesn’t just affect games but the week of practice as well. 
 

The one good sign lately is that when they needed to go into Lawson to win a Penrose they played their best hockey of the second half. Get some rest/recovery, get everyone practicing full speed, and return to that form for NCAA’s.

You are correct. I just think people are frustrated from years of underachieving and outright mediocrity and are anxious to get back to winning in March and April.

I’m a DU fan but watched the first period on the app and also the Sioux Bulldogs highlights.  I don’t think you have anything to worry about. Your team played with speed and energy, just hit a solid defensive effort. I did think the Hawks were a bit lax on defense, but not much you can do to stop two rebound goals, a redirect and two NHL quality scoring efforts. Hard to say whether a couple weeks off will hurt or help, but I suspect a few extra days to heal bumps and bruises will be an advantage.

To your point, many years ago, I recall CC upsetting DU at Magness in the first round and the time off seemed to benefit them as they marched on to a national title.

The first goal last night, Jan makes the first save, and the puck deflects off EJ’s skate and onto a Bulldog player’s stick and into the UND net it goes. I had a feeling it wasn’t UND’s night.

Well I'm upset with the #2 overall seed and a likely visit to Sioux Falls with a bunch of our fans there.  

I'd rather sit and watch UMASS and Minnesota play in Fargo....

Outside of COVID year have NEVER won the NCHC tourney. Last conference tournament title not COVID year was 2012.

The whole team was off from spooner on out, that first power play was a cluster then Verhoff has to have some  situational awareness when he he the last one back and not give the puck to plante on a two on one.

Every time we play Duluth late in the season, they take out one of our guys. Goes back to when older brother Pionk took out Tucker Poolman right before regionals. They are a dirty team. The refs went " Old time hip check" and then when they show the replay the young Pionk just hit Ollie's knee and nothing else. 

This game was a good learning lesson and now they need to win 4 in a row to win it all. It's doable if they play like they did against Western. Still Number 2 in the NPI and no one will move ahead of us. We'll be in Sioux Falls for the regionals. We will most likely get a Hockey East team (U Mass or Connecticut) in the first round or Mankato if they end up beating St Thomas.

Only one I saw was on Midco. Someone will probably find it today and post it.  Pionk tried to do a hip check but missed and got the knee instead.

Maybe Jax should have watch the game from the box or on tv if he can't see what's going on from the bench. OMG
